Hi Everyone,
Can someone please let me know how Background Check works, because I am really in a fix with respect to my application status:-

We have submitted our application on 22nd May (22/05/17) through an agent and on the same date itself we have received "Acknowledgement Of Receipt". We have asked the agent to check if there is any update in our application status on 20th June (20/06/17) ; but nothing got changed:-

Review Of Medical Results: You do not need a Medical Exam. We'll send you a message of this changes;
Review of Additional Documents: The Additional Documents you provided are being reviewed" ;
Background Check : "Not Applicable".

After little over a month 14th July (14/07/17) we have asked the status again. At that time , it showed

Review Of Medical Results: You Passed the Medical Exam; - this got changed here
Review of Additional Documents: The Additional Documents you provided are being reviewed" ;
Background Check : "Not Applicable".

With little less than two weeks (post 14th July), we got a message from our Agent that "We have received RPRF (Request For Permanent Resident Fee) on 20th July". We paid the required amount on 26th July (26/07/17). At that time, we checked our application status; it was showing:

Review Of Medical Results: You Passed the Medical Exam ;
Review of Additional Documents: We do not need Additional Documents" ; - this got changed here
Background Check : "Not Applicable".

We are now not really sure at which stage our application is? Since we haven't been asking for status on daily basis, hence we are not sure
if Background Check "Not Applicable" ever got changed (to "In Progress") or not.

We'll be asking for another update in 2-3 days now; but we are now sitting on 6th August (06/08/17), 76 days post e-AOR, is it a possibility that our
application is in IP2 (In Progress 2)?

We are in FSW-Outland Category!!

Can you help us here please!! We'll be extremely grateful!!

Thanks

Looks like you are what we call as NA2 here. This is the stage between IP1 and IP2. Once your Background Check says: Processing your BG Check or something similar, that is assumed to be IP2.

thnx much maverick28.652358!! appreciated!! Two things:-
a) Is it possible that Background Check doesn't gets changed to "We are processing... or similar" and stays at "Not Applicable" till PPR?

OR

b) Is it feasible that It might have got changed to "We are processing..." and again got changed to "Not Applicable"?

Also, is it feasible that It might have got changed to "We are processing..." and again got changed to "Not Applicable"? Its rare but might happen too. This will be the case of NA3 at which time an additional BG Check will be done by your Local Visa Office.

thnx again mate!!
Is it possible to track our status online? Since we have filed our application through an agent, hence sometimes it becomes relatively impossible to ask / trace the status on daily basis.

Is there online tool / tracker available where this can be checked ; like on which date statuses are getting updated etc.

Much appreciated your responses!!

You can check it online but I am assuming you do not have the login credentials required for that as you have used an agent.

The other option is to use the automated system on call. You can call +1-613-944-4000 and then follow the prompt to IRCC and application status. You'll need your Application Number to access the information.

I hope this helps!

No, you can only check through your account, which I assume you dont have access to

You are at NA2 like maverick said. IP1 happens same time as medical pass, then changes back to NA which is what we refer to as NA2 and thats where I think you are. The possibility of NA from the start to ppr is also possible.
Good luck

Oh Gotcha!! thnx everyone!!
and how much time it usually takes for the status to update from NA2 to "In Progress 2 (IP2)" ; because last we checked was 3-4 days back and it's been a while (more than 10 days) that Background Check is at the same stage (i.e. "Not Applicable")

That varies a lot. I have been on NA since 21st June 2017.
Good luck!
