I think I'm the oldest on here at 42. I know it's rude to ask a lady her age, but I'm getting used to rejection on here by certain ladies, so I'll ask anyway. Older or younger than 42? And yes you can tell me it's none of my business too! :)
Not even close, shaun. I turn 55 in August. But my grandma was doing well at 100, so I'm only half way, lol.

I know exactly what you mean about going on this journey with the people here. I've been trying to move to Canada for many years, some years more seriously than others. But since I've found the people on this forum it's like I now have people to share that excitement with. People to encourage me when I'm down. People who understand why we would put ourselves, and our families, through such a test of endurance.

I've had a love affair with Canada since I first went there in 96 and I've been back lots of times for work since. But this pull to Canada is most definitely from me and not my wife. She is happy to go because she knows how much I want to live there and she and the kids have been there with me for a long period in 2013. She does really like it there, but it's my dream, not hers.

I know why I want to live there. There are plenty of pull factors and a few push factors from here. The weather - even the winters. The culture. The multicultural nature of the people. The employment prospects for my children. In the UK we are lucky in that we have a great education and health care system the same as Canada, but Canada doesn't have the same sectarianism as we have in Northern Ireland.

My wife keeps asking me for my number one reason why I want to move and leave the good life, nice house and well paid job I have here. It's really hard to put my finger on it, but I genuinely feel happier when I'm there. Maybe it's the bright blue skies - yes even in the winter. Maybe it's that I feel that the children will grow up with a brighter future there outside our sectarian country.

Can I ask others to tell me what's the number one reason why they want to move to Canada? Is anyone else having to convince their partners to make the move and if so what's their approach?
Totally agree with your POV, cannot agree more.
Had started the journey to canada long back in 2014.
2015 saw the changes in the system along with Express entry introduction.
And the time flew from there till last week.
Lots of ups and downs and hurdles, appearing in IELTS twice, both for myself and spouse. IELTS expired after stipulated time.
Reappeared again.
She had to write IELTS 3 times to match nd maintain the score.
Had to reapply to be in the pool.
Received nomination from Ontario. Submitted all the papers post ITA, including Medical's and PCC.
Application rejected after 4 months due to missing documents.
Applying again after creating new profile.
BUT as u rightly mentioned , the culture, the blue skies, the future of kids and self are highly motivating factors to relentlessly pursue the dream.
One kid is staying separately with grandparents.
Another on the way to join him.
Leaving a well paid job for both of us to pursue this dream.
Well I am sure not giving up.
Sorry for making it so long. Your post prompted me.
Never stop dreaming.

I have numerous reasons to move to Canada. I m still single so part two of the question does not apply to me.:p

Broad mindedness and liberty to go out and live life without restriction. :)

Having Harley-Davidson bike is my dream since many years; here i am can't even have a dream riding CD 70 :(. But I ma sure Canada will give me this chance:D

Although I love my country but there are lot of things I can't do bcz of social pressures etc blah blah (All the problems a girl face in a conservative society) though I m lucky girl to have a University degree, being independent and many years of job experience but the environment is not conducive:mad:.

I wish for all of us to get a chance of making Canada our home soon :) Love to all wonder full people out there:)

@tjsecondtry @Wandering Mind @andieangel @shaun75
there's a lot going on in line with a Bollywood love triangle...
Shaun drowns himself in pints for wm giving him a slip (while his wife is cooking his favourite dish in the kitchen :p) while Wanderingmind is all disheartened hopeless & sad despite her ita as her 'soulmate' kingkurly is absent from the scene for a fortnight (pretending to be preparing while in real catching up with his beauties from Ireland ;))
the moderator andieangel has disappeared without notice (must have gone to Toronto to have a word with cic on letting all these happen)...:p
Hahaha! @lino82 you're the best! :D Well said! All true! CIC says sorry, they will make it up to us sonner than we think! :D And also they will send crate of Corona to yukon party at their expense! :D

I am afraid to tell you the vodka job i had to turn it down, so no vodka lol. It wouldn't suit much in the cold either. So i will get something else now hehehe. Shaun will be bringing lively and manly Irish whiskey for us, so i am now thinking more of sweet one's, mostly for ladies, like JD and JW and stuff like that lol
What do you mean no vodka? Excuse me, are you for real??? No! My dreams are shuttered now! :D Kidding!

Why did you turn down the job?

Everything that you said about Canada is also number one reason for my family too. My husband is on board with me, he also wants to leave as soon as possible although we live rather comfortable life here, we know it can be so much better, specialy like you said future of our kids, their education, choice of profession and so much more than they could ever dream having here.

I already feel more natural to pack our things and leave than staying here for the rest of our lives...

Although I don't have to convince my husband about leaving people around us don't understand the choice that we are making but how to explain someone that you are simply pulled to the other side of the world knowing you're be happy there...

This is such a lovely post, Shaun! Thanks for sharing!

Most of my reasons for moving to Canada are the same as everyone else's - a better quality of life and more employment opportunities.

But my number one reason is: I'd like my child to grow up in an inclusive and multicultural environment where the colour of your skin is just a small part of your identity and doesn't overshadow every aspect of your life.

Both my spouse and I love travelling (we've lived and worked in three countries so far, in different parts of the world) and are often perceived as "that couple who wants to get as far away as possible from the place they were born in".

We lived and worked in the UK for a few years and had every intention of building a life there and "finally settling down" but unfortunately Brexit opened our eyes to some of the harsh realities we were blind to earlier. That's when we started thinking about Canada. A few weeks of weighing the pros and cons followed and our minds were made up. So here we are, hoping to make Canada our new home in the near future.

True story! Many thanks for listening!
