Hi this is Adi here...
Well I received my PR and my spouse was non accompanying ( which means she did not get her PR. She is the only child of her parents and hence currently she opted not to accompany me right now).I would be sponsoring her once I reach Canada and start a stable job.. Can anyone tell me if this can be done?

Did you include her on your application as non-accompanying? Did she do the medical? If yes, then you can sponsor her later when you are in Canada.

Yes I have included her as non accompanying... She did her medicals on jan 17...so probably jan 18 it will expire...hence I m planning to apply for spouse visa by Sept 17.... Many canadian agencies told me not to land in Canada without she getting her PR... But I did not understand this logic

You should be able to sponsor her then. It is quicker if you list her as accompanying, since then both of you would get the PR visa at the same time. However, you can sponsor her now. As you are a PR, you have to stay in Canada for the duration of processing. Short trips are allowed, but not longer stays out of Canada.

I have received PPR and most probably will be landing in Canada before getting married. So I will be coming back to India, getting married, going back to Canada and then file spouse sponsorship. Under such a situation as this:-
  1. When I fly back out to Canada, do I need to inform about the change in my marital status to anyone anywhere?
  2. Will I need to carry any documents back with me (except for the marriage certificate) ?
  3. Will I need to update my passport to add spouse name?
  4. How earliest upon reaching Canada, can I file for spouse sponsorship?
  5. I know that there is nothing like minimum income required to sponsor your spouse but still want to re-confirm if there is a need for that.
Anybody who can reply the above...thank you very much in advance!!!

If you land in Canada (that is, come here and use your PR visa to enter the country, and then get a PR card), then you can leave Canada, get married, and sponsor her. When you re-enter Canada after marrying, you are already a PR, so they will not ask you about changes in family composition.
You can apply to sponsor her as soon as you get back to Canada and get the application ready.
You should bring any documents you will need for the sponsorship application. Look it over now and see what kinds of things CIC wants.
You don't need an income to sponsor a spouse, but the visa officer has to be satisfied that you will have some way to support yourselves once you are both here. If you don't have a job, it is good to include a letter explaining how you will support yourselves, with any proof you have. For example, you can show savings and investments you both have, property you have or will sell, other goods you or she might sell to raise money, proof that a family member will let you live with them until you get settled in, etc.

You have to intimate CIC about your marriage before landing in Canada . This is important. You can get married and take her along also

Thank you for your response. It answers all my questions!

Is it possible that once I am in Canada and working & living on my own, my spouse-to-be can visit me on visitor visa and we can get married in Canada itself? Is this legally allowed? After my spouse-to-be returns to India, I can file the sponsorship. OR If we both can fly to USA on visitor visa, get married there and then I can file sponsorship once we both are back to our respective countries. Reason for such a question is that - if I have just received a good job...I am 100% sure I wont get a long vacation. So flying to India and coming back would involve more time & money. Whereas, these 2 options I see (as of now) will ease it out a little for me.

Yes, it is fine to get married in Canada or the USA. She can apply for a TRV to visit Canada, but they are difficult to get. She has to show proof that she will leave Canada - any proof of ties to India is good, such as proof of a job and a letter from her boss giving her time off; enrollment in school, with fees paid for time after her expected return; property or a lease; any investments; bank accounts; family, such as a sick parent she is taking care of, or any other such ties; a return plane ticket with a specific date; really anything that will help convince the visa officer that she really just wants to visit Canada for a short time and will leave.

Getting married outside of India is fine, but the visa officers there do expect to see a traditional wedding with all the cultural norms followed. If you don't, you will have to explain why. If it is not an arranged marriage, the visa officers will be more accepting of a less traditional wedding. But if you can't have family at your wedding, I would carefully consider whether it might not be better to get married in India. Of course this depends on your situation.

Thank you for the response.

So I was researching on visitor visa for Canada and it seems one can apply online and is very easy process. However, I got confused on one question. "What is the primary purpose of your visit?". Now since my spouse-to-be will be coming for getting married I didnt feel right to select the option "To visit family/friends" and therefore I selected "Other". Hoping that I will get a textbox where I will be able to enter my other purpose of the visit. But it didnt do any of that. So finally when it gave me a list of documents to be submitted alongwith visa application, there was a "Letter of Invitation". I am assuming that I will have to write this letter since I am the one inviting. Now my questions:-

1) Is it OK to select "To visit family/friends" option or will that be a false statement as 100% the sole purpose of the visit would be marriage? I should select "other" option only?

2) In this "Letter of Invitation" should I mention that I am calling my fiance to Canada to get married? Or the visa officer will not grant visitor visa for this purpose, thinking that the person might not return back and just stay there in Canada.

3) We will be able to provide all the strong ties that you suggested to be shown as proof that my fiance WILL fly back to India, so do I need to submit all those documents at the time of visa application?

I think putting 'visit family and friends' is OK. The invitation letter does not need to mention the marriage, because that will make it less likely that the TRV will be granted. She is visiting family and friends, so it is not a lie.
If she has a lot of proof she will return to India, include it all. TRVs are hard to get.
