Hi All,

I'm a Canadian citizen living exclusively outside of canada with my husband and daughter for most of my life... we are currently planning on moving to canada!
We would like to live in the province of Ontario.

Wish List:
1. affordable housing preferably an apartment or condo
2.great elementary schools
3.family oriented communities not the hustle and bustle of down town Toronto.

4. I'm currently a teacher and my husband is a personal trainer/ group fitness instructor but we both are open minded about jobs etc... any suggestions and advice will be appreciated!!!!!

Everywhere in the GTA is hustle and bustle. Why not consider the northern part of the province (Sudbury, Kenora, Saulte Ste Marie and Thunder Bay?

Same story. You might want to get use to it or go to northern Ontario.

Each one of the cities/towns you named will offer good schools and a family-friendly environment within certain pockets. You will need to see which suit your needs best based upon your budget, your daily commute, your public transit requirements, your desire for certain ethnic grocery shops and restaurants, etc.

Barrie is not so expensive as Toronto, but it is not far from it. Newmarket and Aurora are good for families too.

My suggestion - don't settle in GTA unless you have family or something else tying you to GTA. Settle in Ottawa region - the salaries are as high or higher than GTA and real estate and rent is much cheaper, plus quieter = quality of life should be much better.

Honestly I don't know, I never been in this city and never heard of this town before I found this article. May be somebody on this forum could give us his feedback?

Burlington is a nice, quiet town that some people use as a suburb of Toronto (i.e., they live in Burlington and work in Toronto). Most of the developments and infrastructure is new, and it is much more affordable than Toronto. The downside, however, is that the commute is long (although you can take the train) and you don't have the diversity or multitude of entertainment/dining options that Toronto offers.

Barrie is at least an hour north of Toronto, without traffic. With traffic, it can take you 2.5 hours to get into the city. I would not recommend living there and commuting.

Newmarket and Aurora are closer than Barrie, and would make a lot more sense.

How is waterloo for IT jobs? Is Mississauga better? I think waterloo would have less competition and greater chance to get a job than Mississauga?
