Yes, a lot of us are.
There are some aspects to consider before accepting.
There's the money (CAD$1,500). There's the time (some people told me the wait is nearly 10 months right now, I'm not sure if it's true, but I'm sure it is more than 4 additional months). There's also the papelwork; they really ask for more thning than the federal government to make the nomination (at least for the work experience).

So, if the scores go down, we may be on our way to Canada in 6 to 8 months. If we go throught the PNP, then it will be 12 to 18 months I think.

Bottom line is, it is best to watch the next two draws to have a close idea of what's really going on with the trend right now. If the scores go down, In my opinion, it would be best to wait one or two months to get the ITA directly instead of accepting the NOI. But, in the other hand, if the scores start to go up, then we might have to take the NOI to get a PNP and take the long road.
There's an OINP thread where people who received NOIs between April 10 and 14 said their nomination was processed in less than one month.

So it seems as if Ontario is speeding up the process. Which makes me wonder if they are doing this because the CRS cut-off is surely expected to fall, making OINP redundant?!

That seems likely! :) This also means some people have accepted the NOIs already.

People who received NOIs in April have applied and got nominations in early May. Nobody who received NOIs in May is saying they will accept. Most of us would rather not pay the 1500 CAD ;) in the hope of getting a direct ITA.

Some of my pay stubs are printed on copier paper with no company letterhead :( and like an idiot I have lost the contract of my last job which was in another country :(
Even mine are not on the letterhead, and are printouts with printed signatures. :( I dont remember I had any well laid out work contract as my job is a government job where they simply issue a generalized notification with names of people selected after interviews. Nothing more.

Cool, good to know.
However, I don't think it's going to become redundant. Maybe they'll just have to lower their CRS requirement and speedup the processing time (like you say they're doing).

If this really is the case, then noi isn't a bad idea at all, except the hefty fee. If only their documentation requirements were more reasonable !

Do you really think OINP will lower their CRS requirement anytime soon?! I doubt it because their annual quota isn't very big. They can simply stop sending out NOIs when there aren't enough candidates in the pool with CRS 400 and above.

Also, are there any benefits of immigrating to Canada as a provincial nominee as compared to direct ITA? I mean do provincial nominees get more support from the government - finding jobs, housing etc?

I'm not sure. Do you have a work or study visa?
And, is your wife with you in Canada?
I know with a study visa your partner gets a work permit, as long as you're studying (and up to a year later if it is a 1 year study, or up to 3 years later if it is a 2 year study... anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong). I'm not sure what's the case with work visas.
I am on work permit currenty working and My CRS is 436 waiting for ITA. My wife is in India.

Oh! May be you can prove employment if you have emails from your direct supervisor or any other kind of communication? I am frantically looking for any and every document related to my job. I suggest you do the same even if it seems unimportant at this moment.

If the cutoff scores got to the low 400s they'll practically have to. Because no sane people would accept the NOI if they can a get a direct ITA.
If they don't, then their program is really going to be redundant. It's not the same for a people with a CRS of 414 to get a NOI today, when the score is in the 420s than what it was 6 years ago, when the score was in the 450s or 460s. So, I think if they really need the quota the minister said, then they'll have to lower their requirements, or make a bigger effort to attract candidates. Because, as of now, the pool of people with more than 400 CRS is going to drain in a couple of months.

Wow man, 4 years away from your wife. That must be so hard.
I wish you could rejoin her soon my brother.
Look, I would advice you to make the profile with your wife. Use the CRS Score calculator:
to see how much is the score going to be. If it is in the 410-420 range, then you must not worry, I think you have good chance.
If you can, do so, and tell us how many points you get. Of course, if she hasn't, I would advice for her to take the IELTS, and if she has any university degree, then she should do the ECA, so that you get as many points as possible.
If the score falls in the 400-410, then you can try to secure a NOI and have that backup plan to use if scores go up again.
