New passport post ITA - India and PCC

Hello everyone,

I got my ITA and in the process of getting documents. I am in a dilemma and need your opinion on the below;

1. I recently got married but have not changed my passport. Now i went to apply for police clearance in mumbai and they refused saying you need to get a fresh passport coz spouse details should be there. I have already received my ITA based on the current passport so what will happen if i get a new passport? Is there a way i can update it in the PR Application?

2. I lived in the UK for a year and have already applied for the PCC there. It is under process there. What happens to this report if i get a new passport?

I want to provide truthful details in all the applications for the PR but this whole thing has really confused me.

I would appreciate your feedback in terms if what to do.

I am also sailing in the same boat as yours.

I got an ITA on 1st March, but didn't have spouse's name on my passport. So all I did was that I applied for renew passport and add spouse's name.
I completed PSK procedures and right now waiting for police verification & passport delivery.

As soon as I have my passport, I would apply for my PCC at the same PSK.

Once I have all these, I'll upload the necessary documents to complete my PR file.

Regarding your query,
You surely can upload your NEW passport in the passport upload field. But I'd suggest you to upload BOTH your scanned passports (old + new) and add a letter of explanation saying that you have added your spouse's name in it. I am also going to do the same.

Simple as that.

Thanks. How long does it take to get a new passport? I am reading different processing times.

Total you should count on 20 days for the whole process.

First 5-7 days:
You submit an online application form on passport seva website.
Get your appointment at PSK.
Complete the required procedures at there.

Next 3-4 days:
Get your police verification done at your local police station/thana.

Last 8-10 days:
Get your passport delivered at your doorstep... :-*
(My spouse got her passport delivered at home on the 7th day of her police verification done.)

there was no police verification for me

as my address was same as old passport.

I went for passport appointment yesterday, hoping to get my new passport in 3-4 days

Thanks everyone for your responses. will be taking an appointment tomorrow at the psk office. I just hope i get everything on time to submit my application.

Although I still don't agree with the system of changing passport if your address is different or if your personal status changes. Talk about gender equality etc etc this is not the way a country moves forward by making a common innocent citizen run for documents to prove his identity etc...

on the contrary, I feel that's the best way. Government should know if there is any change in your details. e.g. address change or you got married.

We are asking for police clearance and I think they're right in asking for us to update our details first.

Ideally one's identity docs should always be up to date, that's what I feel.

Looking at the responses, I think we are going to be in a soup. I'll be visiting PSK for my passport renewal tomorrow (Tatkaal scheme). In my application, I've added my spouse's name. However, my wife is yet to do that. She is the Primary Applicant in our case. Will "chai-pani" help? ;D

she'll need to do get passport re-issued to get her PCC.

better apply for her today and get it re-issued with yours

then both can get PCC on the same day.

Chai pani does not help at PSK..
they are really very rigid for the required docs.
I suggest you first renew BOTH of yours passports for adding the spouse's name in each other's passports.

Renewing the details is the ONLY step to obtain a PCC. So first u add spouse's names. Once u get the renewed passport, then immediately apply for PCC.
As your police verification for new passport would be done recently, there will not be another police verification for ur PCC.
So u will get ur PCC on the same day u apply for it at PSK.

I am married and have created my EE profile with a CRS of 459. As of now, my wife wont be accompanying me but in any case her PCC is required as well.

But, the issue is I dont have my wife's name on my passport and neither does she. I have already applied for PCC and would receive it in a week of two.

Now, I have the following queries:

Do we need to have new passports and get each other's name on those and then get the PCC done.

OR

Can we get PCC completed individually through our old passports and attach a marriage certificate.

Please help.

Better get your names added on each other's passports.
Sooner or later, you are going to need it in PR process.

So, first get the passports updated, and then apply for PCCs again.

The rules in India keep changing every second day. I took an appointment on Tuesday for a PCC for my spouse and I when they said that you need to get a new passport as your current address and perm address is different. Plus we never had spouse names on either of our pssports.

I took an appointment today for reissuing a passport when the Passport officer said that yesterday they reveived a circular that no need to change passport even if your address is different. So basically this info was given to me after they took the 3500 bucks to process the passport and cancelled my passport.

I feel like i was forced to get a new passport for no reason.Now unnecessarily all this confusion in my PR application with old and new passport details. Just hassled as usual to get things done in India as rules change at the drop of the hat!!! I anyway know that not having spouse name on passport is not a dealbreaker as long as i have a marriage certificate.

So for all those who are in a sumilar situation like me just pray that the day you apply for pcc the Ministry of external affairs and your passport are on talking terms with each other!!
