Hello,

I am preparing my application to cic and in my document checklist is asking me to provide my wife's employment records. I did not claimed any points for her work experience in my express entry profile so i believe they are asking for it for reference only because is on her background history.

My concern is that she has been working as self-employed for the past 6 years.

Should we just provide CIC with a letter written by her stating that she has been working as self-employed and her duties?

She works as a decorator.

Thank you.

I had a similar problem. If you haven't claimed any points for that, you can remove it from work history, but definitely keep it in the personal history (background).

I agree with the above... for many applicants, if we have been unable to provide spouse's work reference letters, it has been removed from work history and kept in personal history...
then it will not prompt you for the documents.. and will not affect scores either..

I had the same problem as I had been self employed for over 7 years. I wrote a reference letter in my company's name listing all my duties etc for myself. Doesn't make sense but it seems to have been accepted as I have a PPR

Thank you, Did you provide salary in the letter? As self-employed my wife doesn't have a regular salary.

I would suggest you to write a self-explanation letter with job duties and role. removing the details from work history and adding only in activity history may be contradicting .. since you have not claimed additional points it shouldn't be a problem .. if needed you can have a LOE in additional docs section and mention that you havent claimed any points for ITA from wife's employment history ..

There is no point in entering details (that don't give you any points) in the "Employment History" section. If you are NOT claiming points for something, chuck it out from the employment section and have it only in the personal history section.

FYI, spouse experience does not even come into the picture if that experience was not gained in Canada. So, what is the whole point here? Trying to get letters for something that does not get you any points is just a BIG waste of time.

This.

I was under the impression that spouse work history (outside of Canada) does not need LORs. Also, I threw out a bunch of unnecessary work history entries from my profile just so that I don't have to provide the stupid LORs. I was naive enough to include all my jobs from the last 10 years when I created my profile and submitted it. This forum was a revelation. I came to it just in time to realize that it was a big mistake to include anything beyond 3 years of experience unless one can get LORs from all the listed employers.

Those with more knowledge on this matter can correct me if I'm wrong. This is what I know: the way I understand it, any foreign experience under any NOC (0, A, or B) counts for the 3 years or more threshold (to get the max transferability points). Not all have to be within the "primary NOC" of the applicant. As long as you meet that criteria, and as long as the NOC 0, A, or B jobs can be verified with LORs etc., there's no need to go above and beyond. Also, spouse's work history does not matter for CRS calculation if such experience is outside Canada and CIC does not ask for verification of such employment.

Your understanding is correct!

Where is the personal history section and when we have to fill it? I cand find it in EE, only Personal details.
