Hello,

I got ITA and I am working on the application myself.... what is the major difference between letter of employment and offer of employment? CIC website says "Document: Offer of Employment

You must provide an official document from your proposed employer, printed on company letterhead, stating that you will be employed in Canada for a specified period of time by that company. The letter should include contact information for the company (address, telephone number and e-mail address)."

But it does not specify for letter of employment... phoned call center, they said they dont have an answer, I have to fill that form to get an answer. The two letters that my employer gave me are very similar. What is the difference btwn them??

Thanks!!!

An offer of employment is the one you receive upon you being selected for the position. You sign and return it to HR confirming your acceptance of offer. A letter of employment is the one that is issued upon request as a certificate anytime on the date you join or even later if you ask your HR for one. It's not as elaborate as the offer letter but sums up date of joining, position, end date of contract if applicable. Basically the employer acknowledges thru' this letter that you are an employee. For application submission ask your employer for the letter of employment and submit it.

If you dont have a offer letter and employer is happy to help u with your pr then make a backdate offer of employment from the date you was asked to join the company . Hint - if you got confirmation of LMO on 12 December 2013 then make an offer of employment for 13 or 14 December . But make sure offer of employment must be before you applied for work permit on that position .

Secondly , letter of employment means that you are working with ...... company for a period of ....... time . Position is permanent (Non-Seasonal) and he is working ............. hours per week . His gross salary per annum is ......... and he is working for our company tilllll ....... month and ..... year
U can make letter of employment for todayi.e. 20 March 2015

Dates are main key between two letters ...

Hope this will help you .

Offer of employment: When you are all pumped up as you got selected and happy to work for a company!!!
Letter of employment: when you realize its time to leave the company because it wasn't worth it and you are planning to leave it!!!

I had offer of employment from the company about one and half yr ago the job position shows on the offer of employment is from Aug 1, 2013 to Aug 1, 2015. The company wants me to keep on working for them and they need to prepare the letter of employment. I'm confused about the date on the offer of employment because it looks like i only work till Aug 1, 2015 but apparently my company wants me to stay permanently. What date should they put on the letter of employment or how they can explain they want me to stay as long as i want but not only til Aug 1, 2015???

Letter of employment = testifies to work already done. Must include specific details (dates of employment, job title (NOC), duties & responsibilities, salary/wage/remuneration...)

Offer of employment = offer of future PERMANENT employment contingent on obtaining PR status. Should include the same details.

Who should provide the "Letter of Employment"?
My current employer?
Or my current employer + each of my previous employers?
Or my future Canadian employer?

If it should be provided by the current/previous employers, how is it different from the "Reference letters"?
If it should be provided by the future Canadian employer, how is it different from the "Offer of Employment"?

Your current and/or past employers should provide "Letter of Employment" (or "Reference Letter" whatever...) if you claiming points for work done for these employers. You don't need to provide "Letter of Employment" from future employer as FSW/CEC is based on the past work experince. "Offer of Employement" is pretty much useles for CIC as it dosn't confirm that you actually did the work which is mentioned in the offer. There are multiple rejected PR applications where ppl sent only "Offer of Employment" without sending "Reference Letter". CIC usually rejects in such cases.

Offer of Employment - for EE purposes, the only people who need to provide an Offer of Employment letter are those who also have an LMIA and are going for the 600 pt bonus...

So it seems the letter of employment is the same as "Reference letter"?

But it doesn't make sense to me because in CEC checklist in EE account, there is a filed for "Letter of Employment" and another one for "Employment Record(specifically require to include "reference letter"). So I believed "letter of employment" and "reference letter" are two different documents?

Hi jes_ON

I am working of my APR and just reached the document checklist point.

I am asked to provide an Offer of Employment as a required document. I have a 1 year work experience in Canada based on which my EE profile was. I have received a PNP (based on higher studies), now the job I am currently on and claiming experience for is non LMIA and I was offered this job as a part time role while I was just finishing my thesis (on study permit). The job was internally changed to full time regular once I finished my Masters and obtained PGWP.

What do you suggest I provide against this document requirement. The offer of employment I have says Part time role and then I have an email request from my manager to HR to change my employment status and then another email to confirm that status has been changed. Can I stitch all these documents and provide this as an offer of employment for this job?

Thank you, awaiting your response.

Hi all,

If I'm already working in canada and i will continue to work in the same company.
In that case, my 'letter of employment' is actually same as one of the reference letters ?

Hi all,
I have nomination from a province based on job offer, do i need to mention that i has job in "intended work in canada" section if i apply under pnp stream? this job does not support LMIA , then what to do?
pls respond, it is urgent .
