Marriage Certificate Error. Help pls

Hi everyone,
I'm a Canadian citizen trying to apply my spouse from the Philippines. I became a citizen in 2003 through my mom. I've been here for almost 20 years! I got married January and on my marriage certificate my nationality says "Filipino" instead of "Canadian". I am not a dual citizen. The process of fixing this little mistake will take about a year and will cost me thousands because it needs to go through court. I don't wanna wait that long. I'm thinking of sending CIC my marriage certificate with a letter/note saying "its in the process of being fixed"
Will this work? OR will this delay the process?
Can somebody help please.

Are you sure you are not a dual citizen? Some countries recognize people who were born there as citizens, even if they leave and become a citizen somewhere else. Did you renounce your Filipino citizenship?

It won't make a difference for the PR app, as you (I assume) have proof of your Canadian citizenship. You can include a little letter of explanation about the error if you want.

Have you been told by the provincial agency that you need to go through the courts to correct this? It believe it should be a simple process to amend a marriage certificate.

When my wife went to get her passport, she had a seminar for those whose spouse is of different citizenship. That's when they saw the error on the marriage certificate and they told her it needed to be changed before they can approve her visa. Meaning she will not be able to come here if we don't fix it even if CIC approved her visa. It's BS really.

You mean a government agency in the Philippines told her it needs to be corrected before they will let her leave?

I think that doesn't matter at all, whether you are citizen or dual citizen, born abroad or resident. what matter the most is your status in Canada. Just provide you marriage certificate and the copy of your Canadian citizenship certificate. There will be no problem at all

You don't need to worry. My country Albania doesn't recognize dual either and I am Canadian citizen and still got married there as an Albanian citizen. Although I don't have an Albanian passport only i.d card. So my lawyer said its not a problem at all because I am a Canadian Citizen and carry a Canadian passport. On my Albanian marriage certificate says the same thing.

In the Philippines women who marry foreigners have to take a state-sponsored class. Apparently, the Philippines has exit controls, and won't let the woman leave if something is not right. Maybe try consulting a lawyer in the Philippines about how to get them to agree to let your wife leave.
