Hi,

Which country is better to live with PR for IT professional from India? Some of the parameters which I can think of for comparison are:
- job opportunities - both are not in very good shape currently because of oil prices, however what about future, say 2-3 years later
- Salaries
- flight duration from India
- PR process expense - $1500 for OINP included
- ease of getting PR - Canada will take almost a year including OINP process & need ECA, health check, etc
- weather - I think Australia will be better on this front
- study for kids - Canada better?
- ease of visa for parents - Canada has supervisas of 5 years

I know it is not best forum to ask this question as information on Australia will be less, however there could be individuals who might have compared both options.

I can't speak about Canada but I can assure you Australia is great.
Wages are way higher than Canada.
Weather is good as you mentioned.
Infrastructure is good, its immigrant friendly.

The only thing I would say about Australia is that just very aloof from the rest of the world. This point, many wouldn't even consider.

- job opportunities - both are not in very good shape currently because of oil prices, however what about future, say 2-3 years later - Australia is less affected by oil prices, it's more about other resources here. Future - who knows? Impossible to make a prediction on that.
- Salaries probably Oz, but both are good
- flight duration from India - depends on where in Canada or Oz obviously. That would be easy for you to figure out I guess
- PR process expense - $1500 for OINP included - not sure about Oz, but probably more expensive
- ease of getting PR - Canada will take almost a year including OINP process & need ECA, health check, etc. Oz can be very quick if you have all the docs and if you are company-sponsored. A friend had a decision in two weeks. But can take considerably longer if not sponsored.
- weather - I think Australia will be better on this front. Depends on what you like I guess. If you like heat, then Oz for sure. But maybe avoid Melbourne then, can get somewhat nippy in winter (but nothing like Canada)
- study for kids - Canada better? Probably on par. Both countries have good schools and unis
- ease of visa for parents - Canada has supervisas of 5 years. Don't know about this

From limited research I've done Australia is better in all of the mentioned criteria. The only thing that is more difficult than Canada is the skills assessment process, which needs to be completed (and takes up to three months) before applying for PR. Also you need to make sure your occupation is in demand in your region of destination. I am too far ahead in the Canadian process right now but if that doesn't work out Australia is definitely my next choice.

Company-sponsored, like I wrote. Don't know about state sponsorships in Australia. All I know is they exist and last time I looked, they were more restrictive compared to Canada, e.g. You have to live in that state for a certain number of years.

Well,

I have been in the same dilemma :)

CANADA
---------
Canada has a very severe weather, although in Canada you can enjoy different seasons like spring, autumn, summers and winters. French is widely spoken as second language.
Canada’s economy does not depends upon any specific region; it is part of global economy. Like today falling oil prices and a slowdown in global economy has affected Canadian economy negatively. Canada has huge Oil reserves.
Getting a Canadian passport will enable you to enter in US job market, where there are many job opportunities for IT professionals. Canada is a true welfare state, with better education system and the Canadian society has natural acceptability towards immigrants, although racism exist but it’s not that much prevailed. The landscape is very diverse and population is scattered. Cost of living is cheaper then Australia. Infrastructure is good then Australia, accessibility is easy to different places.

AUSTRALIA
---------------
Australia is known for its racism, especially those who have brown skin. There is no concept of customer care. Australia does not have natural tendency towards immigrants.
Mining and commodities are the backbone of Australian economy. The major importer of commodities from Australia is China. A slowdown in China’s economy means a slowdown in Australia, like we can see today.
Australia is also a true welfare state and has amazing weather. Population is mostly scattered on coastal areas. Travelling from Australia is expensive due to its location.

Actually, there is no prior residency requirement for state-sponsored skilled immigration, as long as your occupation is in demand there.

Have you ever lived in Australia to say that Australians are racist?
I am brown skinned, I have been here 6 years and nothing has ever happened to me.
I live with an Australian man.
I have shared houses with many Australians over the years & they had all welcomed me.
Please don't make such assumption which are hardly based on any facts.

This is a public forum and everyone has freedom to post his comments, if you don't agree than ignore.

BTW, what you are looking for at CANADIAN IMMIGRATION forum, I guess you are settled in Australia.

Okay, maybe that's changed then. Was different a few years ago, I thought, but I could be wrong on that too. Anyone interested should obviously review the rules very carefully. Not everyone wants to be stuck in Canberra or Tassie for a few years ;)

Such things create wrong impressions in people's mind, that's all I am saying.

No, I am trying for Canada. I have lived here long enough so I guess its time to move on. Let's see what happens.
