Hi Guys,

Is the work experience gained while WAITING for PGWP counted towards CEC?

Anyone had success?

I've asked this before but not got a definite answer on this

Thanks,

It does. See http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-postgrad.asp

Thanks but that only mentions that work under PGWP counts, I'm concerned if I can count the 1 month period while I was waiting for PGWP.

What was your status / wp type when you were waiting for it to be approved?

I had a study permit but wasn't a full time student. Based on the new rules no off campus work permit is required. But it does mention one is authorized to work while waiting for PGWP.

It's confusing

In that case you were either on a study permit or implied status between study permit and PGWP and implied status maintains the conditions and restrictions of your previous work permit.
Which unfortunately means that until you got PGWP study permit restrictions applied to you and experience gained during that time does not count for CEC

Thats what I understand too, but I got points for the dec 2014 experience (implied status) as I wasn't a full time student then and had completed all my study requirements.

Wish they gave more clarity.

Thanks again,

You can work after Graduating from college while waiting for PGWP. Work permit will be counted after that Graduation date provided on College Graduation certificate.

i am an example for you

I am also under same situation. I finish my 2 year of study in May 2015 and working full time in NOC B from the same month. Received my PGWP in October 2015 because of their slow processing. So should my work exp from May till October still valid and counted under CEC.....

HELP ... hELP....

It SHOULD count, but you have to ask for it, most VOs will automatically just count from the date on the PGWP.

You need to provide a letter of explanation as to why your experience should count from May 2015, because you were no longer a full-time student, and provide proof of your graduation date (should be on your degree/diploma, or transcript).

Thank you Jes_ON

I went to lawyer here in Edmonton he guided me that to apply under CEC work exp achieved only under PGWP is calculated. I have 6 months of experience between May and Oct while I was waiting for PGWP . I am not sure. Is there any information about this on CEC website.

This is CIC's guidance:

"Any period of employment when the applicant was engaged in full-time study will not be included in calculating the period of qualifying work experience (e.g., work experience gained through co-op work permits, off-campus work permits while a full-time student and on-campus work permits)."

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/perm/econ/cec/work.asp

After you graduate, your OCWP authorizes you to work for 3 months; then if you apply for the PGWP before the end of that 3-month grace period, you are in implied status.

So - (1) your work IS authorized, and (2) you are no longer a full-time student.

Others have succeeded. But you have to make the case and provide the proof.

But as others have pointed out, if you want to avoid the issue, you can simply count your experience from the start date of your PGWP, and then you don't have to worry about it at all. Some people have the ability to wait and work the extra time, but not everyone does.

Thank you guys. This is very helpful!
My situation is: I will only have a 10 month PGWP and the time during implied status will be useful to me.
Just to clarify, if my study permit hasn't expired but already completed the program and applied for the PGWP I will be on implied status already, right?

For example
Study permit expires: July
Program completion: May
Apply for PGWP suddenly in May and start working in May

Then the work experience will be counted since May, not August ( after study permit expires)?

Anyone has real life experience with cic?

I will do what is jes_ON suggested.... Provide the completion and explanation letter quoting their website lol

Thaaaaaanks

Re:TWO YEAR EXPERIENCE JAN 1 2016

Hello everyone,

I just hit two years of work experience Jan 1, 2016 (two different companies, for the same client). My current score is 440, can I expect an increase? If yes by how much (I'm okay with estimates).
