Hi,

I wanted you help in understanding if anyone has applied for WES evaluation of a 5 year Integrated Master's Degree for evaluation. For this degree only ONE final Master's Degree is awarded. There is no separate UG degree and PG degree certificates. It is just ONE FINAL PG Degree certificate that reads MASTERS OF SCIENCE in SOFTWARE ENGINEERING (5 YEAR INTEGRATED PROGRAMME). This is actually the degree name that is awarded by Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore.

So, I am confused whether such degree programmes are considered for evaluation by WES or not. Because, I am unable to find any such info on WES site or this forum. Other 5 year integrated degrees that I see award a UG + PG degrees, which is not the case with me.

I need you help in understanding if anyone with degree like mine (with ONLY a master's certificate) had applied for WES evaluation or have idea about cases such as mine? How would such degrees be considered by WES or, would they even consider evaluating degrees such as these?

It if helps, the university is accredited by NAAC with ranking of 'A'. I had read in the WES site that they consider a few 3 year degrees for evaluation from universities with this ranking.

WES helpdesk was of no use with regards to this query as they did not answer my question and just referred me to their list of documents for Indians URL.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Naveen

I had already checked that link before. But then all this time, I was looking at the Masters degrees. This time I went back to check the UG degree named Bachelors of Science. I see that the "Number of years of study" field lists from 3-6 years as duration of study for this programme.

After this, as you said, even I have a hunch that they might consider my degree for a Bachelors programme, which is appropriate under Canadian programmes.

But then again, I would like to wait and see if anyone with a similar case such as mine had applied before. I hope someone has and would get a reply here ;D

I think it will be evaluated as Bachelors degree + Masters degree.

Hi, Naveen!

Could you please update what result did you get? I too have the exact, same degree from Anna University, Chennai! I have to initiate the WES process next week. I really can't wait to know what degree will I get. This hinders me to predict my CRS score before hand.

It'd be very grateful if you could tell your result. I asked the WES team last month because the online tool had no option for our degree. But, they haven't responded yet. So, I really want to know your result..!!! I'm pretty sure I'll get the very same result of yours... So please do respond..!

Thanks in advance!

Hi there naveenwashere,

I'll add my two cents and hopefully it helps. However, which country are you applying from. Or rather where was your degree from, and what was the degree in? This is just my opinion, but these may play important factors. Just be aware any results that people here post from WES are individual to their degree and circumstances. Don't get your hopes up on other people's outcomes, sorry had to say it. Don't want to raise hopes and have them crash down.

My situation is that I have a 2.1 MComp with Honours in Computer Science, known as a Master of Computing. I was terrified this would be seen as a Bachelors as mine was also 4 year integrated undergraduate masters.

I contacted my University, and they said it all depends on some special points that they use to calculate if a degree is worth a masters or not. Anyways, the forms were sent of, together with a special report the university includes to help explain the degree and its value (this is some kind of EU thing, but I asked for them to include it this for Canada if they could. Every little bit of explanation could help right?

So I heard back, I think faster than the 4 weeks they qouted, but I can't remember exactly. WES confirms it will be classed in Canada as a Bachelors AND Masters. WIN! :D

So best thing is, just go for it, get it sent off for verification as SOON as possible, you don't want to delay your application any longer than necessary by waiting to do the admin stuff. That is, if you are set on doing the immigration application anyway, or if you are just weighing up your chances, then that might be different.

Anyways, good luck. And I'm from the UK btw, if that helps you with the degree stuff.

I was in the same situation, as I don't have a separate Bachelor's and I studied for 5 years non-stop.
According to my WES report, I have a Master's. Period. I acquired all the points for my Master's and see no reason why there could have been a problem.
The absense of a Bachelor' credential won't matter, since you have a Master's and it is evident that a prerequisite for Master's is Bachelor's.

Hi SuganyaNanthan, redfox05 & Liara,

Thanks for posting your WES results. Could anyone of you please throw some light on how many CRS score does the result "Bachelor's and Master's Degree" yield to us for CRS?

Also, can I assume "Bachelor's and Master's Degree" as a "Master's Degree"? I have no idea how to calculate CRS score for this result: "Bachelor's and Master's Degree". Please guide me!

Please do reply! Thanks in advance!

Update:

I just called my University to double check, the points that I was referring to were the FHEQ points/credits. The FHEQ points are something used by UK universities I think, but also widely accepted/understood elsewhere.

And the extra report he included was called a "Diploma Supplement" which contains information for the recipient about the University and more details about the specific course I took, to help them understand.

In "Education" it will be "Master's degree, OR professional degree needed to practice in a licensed profession (For “professional degree,” the degree program must have been in: medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, optometry, law, chiropractic medicine, or pharmacy.)"

In "Skill transferability" yours is "Two or more post-secondary program credentials AND at least one of these credentials was issued on completion of a post-secondary program of three years or longer".

Hi SuganyaNanthan/Liara,

I have completed my Msc 5 year integrated software engineering from CUSAT, kochi India .
When i submit the documents for WES evaluation before three months, they have given only degree equivalence to me. I approached them again by mail to re evaluate my documents as I have done Masters . But two times they replied me back that, there is no change in the completed report.
I am in complete dilemma now, how to convince them again to get my Masters equivalence. Its really affecting my immigration points . Could you advice me what I can do for this? If you can, could you please share your wes ref no: or your full name so that I can inform them like my course is also same like you and request them to re evaluate.?
