Anyone in this situation and have their case in London or Islamabad? The reason I'm asking is cic thinks we provided them with a translation when really, that is our original nikahnama. Anyone in the same situation?

My nikah nama was in English and I submitted it as it is. Nikah nama in English has been available for a long time and there is no reason to believe CIC thinks that way.

That's the thing, I submitted it as is too. This is a point from an email I got from cic: they were requesting:

Original Nikkah Nama with certified translation; the only copy provided with your original application was the duplicate English-language version.

Now, you know how you have a copy and your husband probably has a copy of the nikahnama as well. I'm the wife and I sent my copy. After this email, we took a close look at my husband's copy of the nikahnama and at the very top, it says "triplicate" and then we took a look at the photocopy of the nikahnama we sent to CIC and at the top, that one says "duplicate". Then, I had to draft a whole email explaining that this is not a duplicate, it is the original thing complete with quotes from the West Pakistan rules under Muslim Family Law document. I just wanted to know if anyone else went through this and how they answered their email. Can you look at the remaining copy of the original nikahnama you have, and maybe tell me if yours says duplicate or triplicate at the top? It would really help.

Get a letter attested by the high court in which your district municipality has stated that the nikahnama is true and is an original copy of the file in their records. I got my dad to translate my birth certificate (back then there was no English option) from karachi and that's what the translation attestation looked like. I know yours isn't a "translation" but attach another original copy with a stamp from the high court/notary public on the letter stating the facts. We are atheists so we only had our Ontario marriage certificate & didn't have to provide any such letter but by the looks of it, you will need to.

Yes there are 3/4 copies of the Nikah nama, stating duplicate and triplicate. The 1st one is taken to the union council to get it registered by the Nikah registrar. The rest are giving to you after it has been registered and they say duplicate/triplicate on it. I have the same and submitted the one that says duplicate at the top. Good that you shared in detail if I need it as well.

Is it possible you can PM me the exact email you sent to CIC [removing your personal info]

Nikahnama (rough) is done both in urdu and english, then you get a marriage registration certificate from NADRA which is also in both languages but it can be considered official everywhere since it's issued by Govt.

I am screwed....my case is with london. I got an email on april 30th asking for original nikkah nama long with certified translation. I seng my original english nikkah nama ( mine on top says ORIGINAL)....and stupidly I sent them the certified translation which shud have been sent only in case I was sending my urdu nikkah nama. I already have submitted my nadra marriage registration cert. Do u think they will accept my english nikkah nama as it clearly says original. Or shud I send my urdu nikkah nama to be on safe side.

What do you mean rough ? Like a draft?

It is either done in Urdu or English, there is nothing in Urdu in my Nikah nama. The NADRA cert is a completely different thing for sure.

At this point you have 2 options, either write to them explaining that it is the original. Or just send the Urdu one [ I don't know how you have 2 versions] with attested translation and be done with it.

If they see it's original it should be enough.

I would make sure to obtain the registration from Nadra as it helps to have everything in their record/database for future family members easily added into family info for NIC, NICOP, etc

I dont understand what they are saying about nikkah namahs here either. I signed the urdu one on my nikkah day and had 2 other copies. I mean it wasn't photocopies or anything. Just 2 more copies with the original nikkah namah. I sent about 3 copies :O

1) my original in urdu
2) my photocopied in urdu with golden seal ( i don't know why, but I think someone asked me to :O)
3) one translated in english with golden seal on it
I know my nikkah is registered and I was able to get my CNIC under my husband's name. But I fail to understand the NADRA marriage certificate. I don't have one, I don't know if they will ask for one :O

Generally, Nikkah nama is available in both urdu as well as in english. At the time nikkah bride and groom have to fill both one by one.

Before the nikkah day , family of groom or bride needs to inform molvi sb that u want both urdu and english nikkah nama.
Nikkah khawan / Molvi sb bring both(urdu and english version of Nikkah nama) with him.
if one can do this then thr will be no need to translate nikkah nama in english or other language or to validate with high court / notary public or 17th grade officer etc

.
further if the embassy of any country including CaNADA asks to give the marriage certificate then u need to go at the union council of ur area to prepare NADRA's Marriage certificate.
this certificate is also required at the time of changing the name of wife in her CNIC.

Isn't it Urdu OR English rather than both ? I didn't sign anything that was in Urdu on my Nikah nama, everything was in English all 3 [instances/copies] of it.

As far as your Nikah nama is concerned you don't have to worry about that since you had original in Urdu and you have provided notarized [the golden seal] translation. If you want you can get the NADRA marriage cert from your Union council its a little less than Rs.2000 for the whole process and at the end NADRA will issue you a family/marriage cert with both you and your spouse on it.

You are still waiting for PPR/re-med why not get this thing done in the mean while.

I wanted to know did CHC notify you when they transferred your file to London or you got to know about it when you emailed them or requested notes ?

Yea I was also thinking that I would ask my husband to get the certificate from NADRA office.
No I ordered GCMS notes and I got them by email .. the email address was a british name and when I went through my notes I figured out my file is in London. I never emailed them.
