Hello

I sponsored my wife to come to Canada in May 2013. She did her medical from New Delhi on January 2, 2013. She received a letter from CIC and we are not sure why they are asking for this (especially the first point). A corresponding radiological report was not done on 2nd April as they are indicating. In fact the medical practitioner just gave my wife a receipt and we included that with the application. No other communication was done between the medical practioner and my wife about any further tests to be conducted in April. Does anyone know what this is all about? Please see the letter she received below:

Dear xxxxxx xxxxxxxxx

This is in reference to your application for a permanent resident visa application for Canada.

The results of your initial medical examinations did not establish that you meet the medical admissibility criteria of Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA). Further medical information is required before a decision can be reached.

- Chest x-ray image corresponding to the radiological report completed on 2ND APRIL 2013 is required.
- Consult chest specialist – Report must include history of TB Treatment and drug schedule used
- Sputum smears and TB cultures are required. Must be taken on three consecutive early mornings and incubated for 6 to 8 weeks (if cultures are positive, please provide Drug Susceptibility Testing results where available).

Take this letter to the Panel Physician for the medical examination(s) to be arranged.

If your original Panel Physician is not available, please follow this link for information to assist in locating a Panel Physician in your area: http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medical.aspx.

You have 30 days from the date of this letter to comply with this request. Failure to do so may result in the closing of your Immigration medical file, and may result in the refusal of your visa application.

Please do not reply to this e-mail.

Thanks

Basically, it looks like the RMO found something and CIC want a followup with more tests.

It's possible that only the report from the radiologist was sent to the RMO and not the actual picture. I'm pretty sure that they insist on having the film sent to them as well.

Do you mean that the radiologist sent CIC a report in April and they are requesting for the chest x-ray from the same person?

Do you know if it was a paper-based examination or an eMedical one?

It was done in India and she just received a paper receipt back. I think it was a paper-based medical exam. I'm reading about medical exams now and just noticed eMedical, which is new to me.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/medic/exam/submit.asp has the list of what is supposed to be supplied for a paper-based exam.

My gut feeling is that the wording is bad and what they actually want is ANOTHER x-ray, plus the results of all the other tests mentioned. CIC's grasp of the English language is quite often somewhat lacking.

I think they got the report from the medical practitioner but not the x-ray image. They want to probably see that as well. Do you know if calling CIC in Canada will help?

It's possible that they may be able to access the electronic version of your notes and find out exactly what is being requested. Give it a try. You have little to lose.

Is it a big deal if I call on behalf of my wife?

Hello msingh2013, I believe the CIC call line will only accept in-Canada calls. It is not a big deal if you call and if they have a problem with it they will advise you. In your original application did you and your wife sign a consent form in order to have you represent her? If not, you may want to get this done for future. Different CIC reps will often provide different responses so if you get this on your file you will be able to do all of the follow-up. They are strict about deadlines though so you will want to act ASAP.

My husband and I did this as I am the sponsor and it is generally much easier for the spouse/partner in Canada to do the follow up/administrative type things. Blessings.

We never did a representation form because they said that is for those who are doing the forms on our behalf. They sent two emails to her. One said it should be done within 30 days and the second email said within 90 days.

If she takes this letter to the same medical practitioner will he be able to pull up the file based on the file number and understand the situation?

Spouses can represent each other as well for some of the reasons I outlined previously. The original medical practitioner should be able to pull up the file; however, it may be worth a call to them first, to confirm. If they are the designated medical practitioner in the area, they should be familiar with these situations.

I just called CIC and they indicated we should be inquiring at the New Delhi office. CIC sent me the New Delhi Canadian High Commission contact information (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/missions/new-delhi.asp) but they don't have any phone numbers. Just an inquiry form.

I think it might be best for my spouse to contact the doctor that you mentioned. If she can't get the same doctor, can another doctor pull up the same file?
