Online Application for Work Permit

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knew if CIC check over the application as soon as its received online to make sure all documents are there? Or do they not look at the application until its processed?

I understand when its received at the CIC office via mail they check over it quickly to see whether all documents are not there and if they are not they return the application at this point, am I correct?

Trying to understand the process to see whether there is any chance the application would be returned after they have "confirmed submission" for missing documents,

They can't return something that is digital in nature. I guess all they can do is either deny the application or ask for additional documents to be uploaded. As for whether they check it right away... no idea. All I did is submit the documents required and one business day after, they requested for a medical exam. I would have to guess that they do check it right away but ask for more documents as the need arises.

Processing times are a lot faster, but who knows how quickly they are being processed at the moment with all the strikes. People say because the offices in Canada arent on strike it isnt affecting them very much, but I certainly believe it is.

In general online application is definitely faster since it skips the manual scan and upload of your entire file by staff at your relevant embassy. Moreover, you get to keep all original docs with you including passport. Only passport is required when your case is approved.

Lastly, i can certainly say paper based applications can take way too longer to be returned for being incomplete. Things would be better if you apply in land, but in my country, my application was returned unprocessed twice.

First time it took them more than a month to respond since submission AND ONLY WHEN I EMAILED AND GAVE ALL MY DETAILS, my application was returned citing the reason for being incomplete.

The second time it took 15 days to return.

Ironically, each time it was not any mistake to fulfill requirements on my part. Rather, they have officially stated in the checklist that they didn't require some docs, but they actually did and used that as a reason to return application. Then the second time, they asked for the wrong form.

It was finally submitted in the 3rd time correctly but wasted my roughly 2 months.

There is far less chance of this happening in online app i.e. a lot of requirements are verified and accepted as part of the submission and only some document which was determined to be required manually at some point latter, can be asked for, instead of refusing the entire application.

Moral of the story, if you can - do apply online, no matter if you are applying from any where in the world.

Hi Can anyone help me with information, I am awaiting my positive LMO from the employer as a long haul truck driver (NOC 7411) can I apply online and then do the WP and TRV at the port of entry and how long should I wait before applying at the border.

I would suggest you try applying online anyway. Before you can start the process you will have to answer a quite a lot of questions from their wizard and it would tell you whether you are eligible or not. If you are then you can proceed and follow thru the process.

hi thanks for the response, I have done the eligibility test and I do qualify to work in Canada. I am from a non exempt country (TRV) and this is the cause of my concern. I am able to apply for the work permit at the border but its the TRV that I'm concerned about

Did you submit application from INSIDE Canada? and not some foreign embassy. The july 14 date is ONLY about applications who submitted their applications from inside Canada. The time is much longer from any where in the world and no foreign embassy provides dates of applications on which they are currently working.

YES Fkl you are right. i submitted inside canada.i guess Ajay93 apply aswell inside canada because he used canadian agent for his aplication. for other VO is more longer due to PAFCO stike.

The online process will take care of that. Once you have submitted all the requirements for work visa, they will ask for your passport to have your visa stamped once application is approved.

I have applied for Work Permit online on 26th July 2013. The web site shows 32 days for processing. I haven't heard anything from them yet.

Can you guys provide your timelines? Has anyone received approval for online application recently?

I would appreciate any replies.
