processing time for self employed application

Dear all

I wonder if the processing time for self employed application will be accelerated as a result of the changes taken by CIC ? The current processing time posted in Hongkong mission is 71 months which is almost 6 years. If CIC is determined to reduce backlog for skilled workers and investors, will they also reduce the time for self employed applicants?

Does anyone know any information about this? Could you share with me?

Many thanks!

@Linda2004 : It should accelerate the applications processing after removing so many cases from the backlog but unfortunately i don't see any progress in the pace, its been more than 44 months since my application process started under FEDERAL INVESTOR CATEGORY, in JAN 2013 i did my medicals and still after 3 months i have not hear anything from the visa office ............... so i think in your case it will take around 6 years or more !

Thank you rock-Khan for your sharing. I feel sorry to know you have been waited for so many years... However as I heard that CIC will make their application system a "responsive system" by 2014, I really hope that will accelerate all backlog cases. Cross fingers...

When CIC says they will make the application system a "responsive system" by 2014 unfortunately I believe they are speaking about new applications. I don't believe that this will have much impact on cases like rockkhan's or my own which has been in process since Sept 2007 (almost 6 years).

Hi Linda,

I am also under self-employed category. My application was mailed last March 13, 2013 and got a mail form CIC that they have forwarded it to visa Office in Manila. Until now my status in e-CAS is application received. If I have to read all threads concerning self-emploed, I would be discouraged about the timeline. But still hoping that it would turn out good for us. Lets keep in touch about our progress.

Hello nansspnosa

I am very excited to know you are also under self-employed category. I have read many postes in many forums but found very few self employed applicants. When asking about the processing time for self employed application, the answer is frustrating, saying at least 6 years in the past.

But I still have a feeling that maybe the processing time will be reduced based on recent changes taken by CIC.

I submitted my case in December 2012 to CIO, and they informed me my case was forwarded to Hongkong office. However up until now, my E-CAS status has been APPLICATION RECEIVED.

Do you think that our cases are just filed some place in their office and not be viewed by anyone? How long will it take to have our cases be review by an officer?

I emailed them but they never answer me the specific question. Just asking me to refer to CIC website.

Anyway it is good to be connected here. Let us keep in touch and share with each other!

I applied in August 2012 under the self employed stream and got the AOR in September but didn't receive any update till July of this year when they asked me to forward them more documents like proof of self employment docs (registration, pay stubs etc), all my tax docs from 5 years before my application, proof of net worth and a written letter of how I would make a contribution as self employed person. I sent it in 2 weeks ago but I probably won't have any updates for the next little while. After reading the forums on how some people have not received any updates for 2+ years I got scared but this gave me a little hope. It's not an acceptance of any kind but at least I know they have looked at my application and are looking to look into it further.

Some extra info: Been living in Canada for 6 years now, my post grad work permit just expired so I had to apply for another work permit. Sent the application from within Canada. It's now being processed at the office in Ottawa.

Hi Vectroid

I think that is a good news for you as they are reviewing your case now. Given your application timeline, it is pretty soon for self employed applicant.

But I wonder maybe it is because you apply within Canada that your case can be processed faster than overseas applications?

Please keep us updated your progress! All the best!

Quick update: This is going much faster than I anticipated, I just received an email asking me for medicals and my interview has been waived.

I believe my 3 years of self employed experience under the PGWP in Canada must have played a big part in this getting processed faster. I feel so relieved!

Hi Linda and nansspnosa,

My name is Ella Mesina and I just recently passed my application under the employed program last week. Reading processing times has really been discouraging and disappointing. I really hope things will be different this time. I hope you can share the progress of your applications, especially from nansspnosa since we both are from Manila.

Hi nansspnosa,

I am also from Manila and as mentioned in my earlier post, I just passed my application last week. I'd like you ask if you already have updates on your application. I would really appreciate if you can share with me some inputs or experiences.

Thanks.

Hi Lalastar,

Sorry it took me a while to update because I do not want to read negative feedbacks on application regrding self-employed. Anyway, I just learned that we are both from Philippines. Maybe we can get in touch thru mobile. Kindly e-mail me your mobile phone @ nans_spnosa@yahoo.com so that we can discuss further our developments. Though it is good to hear also advice from other applicants out here. It took me almost 2 months to finally have somebody know that we both apply for the same category. Until now I have no e-mails being received from CIO. And I am thinking if getting a CAIPS notes would help. I really wanted to have at least a view of the timeline so that there's a date to look forward to. Hope you will e-mail me your number.

Glad to see you guys connected via this post. Could you share with us what kind of self employed category you applied for? Eg. cultural, athletics, or farming?

Good luck to everyone!

Hi, I applied for cultural. Major Group 5226 to be exact. I really hope processing times is faster at this time. What's your category? And how is it going?

Thanks.
