I got 3 years work permit and I took one course part-time in summers..!!!

Guys I am posting this because there is a lot of confusion and misinformation given on this forum from many different members...I just want to say that if you withdraw a course and take it in summers part-time that would not effect your pgwp as long as you are a full time student during the academic years...I know a guy who got his three years pgwp and he was part time during his 2nd semester.....

So guys I just want to tell you that please dont worry or stress if you had to take a part-time course in summers and such, you will get your pgwp, my credit hours were around 65 and I was a full time student during the academic years, so if you were part time in the summers that most probably will not affect your post graduate work permit.

I fully reccommend that you remain as a full time student but sometimes things happen in life and you have to go part-time in summers and it should be okay with you when you apply for your post graduate work permit..

I am writing this because I been into so much depression and at a point I almost thought my work permit will be rejected because of reading posts from members in this forum, so please guys dont worry if your in the same scenario, most likely youll be fine..

As per rules, Student has to be full time student in a participating institute to qualify for PGWP. He can be a part-time student only in his final semester.

I know that and dont repeat that again please, many members like you do that all the time...But CIC looks at the big picture, many people I know have taken part-time courses not just in summers but also in other semester. As long as you were a full time student for the majority of the time, one should be ok..

You should believe in what CIC says but this post is for students who are depressed because they took a part time course in summers. If you dont wanna believe thats fine...I took a part time course in summers and I got my FULL 3 YEARS PGWP.....They look at academic years if you are studying instead of going home and partying thats fine with them..

I graduated this summer in 2 yr program...i was part time for fall 2012 which is last to last lone. I completed my program in 6 sem. I never dropped any semester. Before this program in nait, I COMPLETED ONE SEMESTER FULL TIME AT ALOGONQUIN COLLEGE - SO IN SHORT I WAS FULL TIME FOR 6 SEMESTER AND 1 PART TIME WITH NO DROP EXCEPT SUMMER BREAK BCZ WE DONT CLASS IN SUMMER.
Will it affect my pgwp.

Timeline:
Year 2015
Jan-April - Semester1 (Full-time)-Clear
May-August - Smester2 (Full-time)-Failed 2 courses
September-Dec -Semester3 (Full-time)-Clear

Year2016
Jan-April - all student of my course are on break -(Taken 2 failed courses Part-time)
May-August -(Co-op)(Full-time)

Note: Co-op is a mandatory term in my program and we have to clear all courses before it .

I finished BCIT diploma program just before and my study permit expires 31 November 2017.
My story is like this...

Finished 1st semester successfully.
But, failed 3 courses(kicked out from full time) in 2nd semester. - took 1 course in the summer
Took 2 courses in the next semester as part time. Readmission for full time.
Dropped 1 course early to reduce heavy workload and took it in the summer. Finished 3rd semester.
Finished 4th semester and the program with 2 and half years.

I am up to apply for PGWP now and so worried of rejection.
In my case, do I have possibility to reject PGWP?
I would be appreciated of any reply.

It is not guaranteed that you will get it all the time. It depends on the officer looking into your application. I know personally few people who got their pgwp approved even though they were not full time student in any of their semesters and also, few people who got their application rejected because they were not full time student in one semester. All you can do is try your best to follow the rules and leave the rest to your luck.

Can you tell me the result?
Um..some people say that to get PGWP nees the last 8 months full-time study before graduation.
But, to take part-time to cover failed course last semester is ok.

I took part-time after 2nd semester to cover 2 course and finished rest courses as full time.
I also worried of refusal for PGWP.

Wondering what's the point of getting worried now. You do not have any other option but to apply for PGWP. You can only wait for the results.

There is another option, 1 is to take another 1 year study and 2nd is to get LMIA.

To clear everyone's doubts,

There is nothing wrong in being part-time during the summer which is not considered an academic period in more big universities.

On the other hand, Being part time during fall and winter sessions will affect your PGWP application and might get you a rejection.

You're allowed to be part time during your last semester unless you have only few courses to complete.

Hello friends.... I have been accepted for 30 credit hour M.Eng Industrial Systems Engineering course in a public research university.

Because of course availability constraint in Spring/Summer, full time registration is not possible.

My acceptance letter clearly states full time study in this program normally takes 2 years.

6 credit hour or more is considered full time. Now the entire course schedule can be broken like this:

Spring/Summer 2017: 3 credit hours
Fall 2017: 6 credit hours
Winter 2018: 6 credit hours

Spring/ Summer 2018: 3 credit hours
Fall 2018: 6 credit hours
Winter 2019: 6 credit hours

Total: 30 credit hours

Do you think I will be eligible for 3 year PGWP? Any suggestion you may want to give? Thanks in advance
