I’m out of status too, let us know if you figure out how to do it with the aip because that’s my next step too.

Did you also receive a separate SA letter?

Could someone shed some light on
  1. Does every sponsor receive a separate sponsor approval (SA)?
  2. Those who have received a separate SA, what was the content/message written in it?
  3. Does getting an AIP (to PA) implicitly mean a positive decision on sponsorship application, as in, the sponsor was also found eligible to sponsor (an implicit SA)?

I will answer from my experience. Can't say I am 10000% sure

1. I think so. The sponsor should receive an email about it. (but that was back in Jan this year) I don't know if it changed. However, we never got the mail version of it, though. I feel like you should be able to check on your tracker to see if the eligibility portion is completed and if it is, you guys should be receiving the email

2. My husband got an email with the subject: " Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada - Communication to client/Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada - Communication auprès de la clientèle - CPCM / CTDM - Inland Sponsorship Eligibility Decision Letter XXXXXXX "

In the email, it would be something like:

Dear Client,

This email is regarding the Application for Permanent Residence that you submitted to this office.

Attached please find a letter related to your application. Please fully read the attachment and save this message for your records.

Then in the attached PDF, it should be...

SPONSOR's NAME
This refers to the Application to Sponsor a Member of the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in
Canada Class you submitted to this office on behalf of PA's NAME and family
(if applicable).
You have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor. The Application for Permanent
Residence (APR) for your relative will be processed separately and he/she will be contacted
shortly.
If you received this communication via email, please note that another copy will not be mailed to
you.

3. Can't say for sure,. All the stages have to be completed and we might not know until we got eCOPR?

Is there a way to find out what a ghost update might mean? We got a medicals request on Oct 24 and a ghost update on Nov 1, but cannot think of anything that may have caused the ghost update. Any ideas?

We also got a ghost update on a Friday (not for medicals though) and then on Saturday we got an email with AIP then on the following Monday the tracker got updated once again showing Eligibility completed.

To answer your second question from my own experience:

1. The principle applicant will receive AIP via email. The recipient of the the AIP is the applicant. The letter contains something like:
"It has been determined that you meet the eligibility requirements to apply for permanent residence as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class. Please note that a final decision will not be made until all remaining requirements for becoming a permanent resident have been met. These requirements include medical, security and background checks for you and, if applicable, all of your family members, both in Canada and abroad, even if they are not applying to join you in Canada at this time. You cannot become a permanent resident until you and all your family members have met these requirements."

2. The sponsor will receive an SA letter via mail or email. The recipient of the SA letter is the sponsor. The letter contains something like:
"You have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor... The application for permanent residence for your relative will be processed separately and he/she will be contacted shortly... If you received this communication via email, please note that another copy will not be mailed to you."
, along with some key responsibilities as a sponsor

There can be multiple reasons for ghost updates, behind the scenes multiple agencies' are working like background check , police verification etc. If any one of them updates their info on your application, then also you might get a ghost update. Can be anything. Until you are getting Ghost updates its good. it means your application is moving.

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense. In our case, the eligibility was completed long before this Nov 1 ghost update, and we had the AIP and SA come through before that. So we know we're almost there... what I'm trying to do is gauge when the eCoPR will come. It's been quite the intense climb, so to speak, and still more to go, so will be nice to have this long-going summit completed soon.

Is your background check done? if not, you have quite a bit before eCOPR would come. Still have that to be completed, final decision made shows on cgkey, P1, P2 and then eCOPR for inland applicants. Not long now though. I heard March applicants are getting final decision now. Hope you hear good news soon!
