Hi
One of my relative wants to apply for a visitor visa to Canada to see his mom as she is critically ill and may not survive the illness. They already got a letter from the doctor.
He went on the IRCC website and see there are following options: Which one he should pick?

"For compassionate reasons" or "For a family visit"?

Thanks

I also posted some question in a separate thread but its still not posted. it says waiting for approval.
The question i posted are below, i would appreciate if anyone can answer them.

My cousin is ready for apply for a visitor visa to see her mom who is critically ill in Canada. He is asking my help with the following question. He filled up the answer but asking if they are good enough or need to put more. I think it should be good but just want to see what the forum experts has to say about this.

Question: Why do you need a visa?
To be with a loved one who is critically ill or dying

Question: Tell us more about what you'll do in Canada. Include dates.

I intend to visit to see my mother <her name> , who is critically ill and will be going under surgery. As her son, I would like to see and be with my mother before her surgery and she would want it the same, which would be occurred some time in April 2024 as per her doctors. As of now, her doctors did not have an exact date of his surgery, however they have mentioned to her that it may be sometime in April 2024.

Question: When will you enter Canada?
2024-04-01
Question: When will you leave Canada?
2024-04-30

Although, he will have reasonable money to bring with him but since he will be staying with his brother, so he put down the following answer. Does his brother need to show his bank statement etc?
Question: Finances
Question: Is someone else giving you money for your stay in Canada?

Yes

Question: Please provide details.

During my 4 weeks of visit, I will be staying at my brother's (brother name) house. He will support me.

Is his answer good enough or does he need to put more details?

Include doctor/surgeon letter about her condition, surgery required and potential dates. He should include his bank statements since you say he has the money, as well as brother’s bank statements.

He needs a lot more detail about the actually diagnosis, surgery, length of stay in hospital, prognosis, what support she will need after surgery in the hospital and at her home, indication of why 4 weeks is planned length of stay, proof of leave from their employment in their home country, proof of their savings and would remove any mention of the brother financially supporting his stay. If he unable to support his travels then I would remain as is. If he has a wife, dependent children and/or property at home I would include proof or those ties.

Yes, he has the letter from her surgeon and family doctor that explained her medical condition and need of her son to be with her but as for dates, the doctors doesnt have exact dates but just a month. He will include his bank statements but good point of including of his brother bank statements. thanks

Doctors already provided the letters explaining everything. I will ask him to include the same in the visa application. As for support she would need is to see her son thats all. You can say moral support. As for financials, he has money for tickets and reasonable money he would bring it with him but since he would be staying with his brother, can he say his brother would be taking care of him during his stay? As Naturgrl suggested that his brother should also include his bank statements. Yes, he has wife and a child who he will be leaving as a tie, he has a good job too that would also be tie. thanks

It would up d be best if he provided his own financials not his brothers. You can specify that will be staying with the brother.

Now, i have another question, who should be inviter (his father or his brother)? Because his father is also in Canada. I think his brother because his father is retired.

Is his father a citizen? Father can write compelling letter to visit. Both can write a letter.

As long as the person inviting is a PR or citizen who send the invitation letter is not very important. The mother would be most obvious person to invite the son. Both parents could be included on the invitation letter. What is most important is proof of the severity of the medical situation to show that why the som should be able to come to Canada to visit the mother, proof that he will return home due to his strong ties to his home country (spouse and dependent children, employment including approved leave from employer, property ownership, etc.) and proof of savings to support his travels. Given the reason for travel the finances are not as important as for tourism but proof of savings is still still important given the length of stay requested and given that it doesn’t sound that this is a palliative care situation.
