I submitted the application in early Nov and received AOR on Dec 1. Due to some personal issues, I need to go back to my origin country for a few weeks in coming Feb/Mar. Is anyone has the same experience?

Did you apply for an inland or outland application?

Same situation, inland app with OWP, leaving for 1 week.

For returning, on ArriveCAN for purpose of travel, do I choose "work" or "immigrate"?

If filing inland you are supposed to remain in Canada and be living with your spouse. If possible would delay your travels.

It can't be for "immigrate" unless you already have your PR approved and you don't (and it's not possible since you applied inland and would be expected inside Canada when your PR is approved).
"immigrate" is for people to complete their PR landing process.
