Hello Everyone,
My 1-year-old son received his passport request when he was in India, and we were already planning to travel to India on a Visitor visa the next week. So, I decided to do the virtual landing. He landed last month, and I received an email (PDF) stating that they would create a portal ID for my son to confirm his PR. I replied to the email with the requested details and no updates after that.

My question is, can I apply for OHIP with the PDF I received from the Etobicoke office (this is not a CoPR)?

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

How is your son going to travel back to Canada? This is why you are asked whether you are in Canada during virtual landing. He will now need to obtain a PRTD to travel back to Canada. He can only apply for OHIP once back in Canada and if he is scheduled to be compliant with the OHIP residency requirements (be in Ontario for the first 5 out of 6 months, be in Ontario for 6 out of 12 months and make Ontario his permanent home.

He is already in Canada. Sorry, there is a typo in my original question.

I called the service Ontario customer service number and they told me my Son could be eligible to get a health card if he has an implied status and his PR is already approved.
I will be visiting the service Ontario tomorrow.

Which city in Ontario did you apply for OHIP? I am in similar situation and what documents you showed them?

You should have updated your daughter’s address when she came to Canada. If you did update the address then your daughter will qualify for virtual landing there is no need to do anything.

If he had implied status then typically OHIP does not allow you to get OHIP card. You are able to apply for OHIP with proof of virtual landing as long as you intend to meet the residency requirement in order to qualify for OHIP. I order to qualify for OHIP you must be planning on meeting the residency requirement to qualify for OHIP which is the being in Ontario for the first 5 out of 6 months, being in Ontario for 6 out of 12 months and making Ontario your permanent home. The requirements are slightly different in the first year. If you leave Ontario and no longer meet the residency requirement you will need to reapply for a new OHIP card and start the process over again. Many are unaware that to having a valid OHiP card is not enough. You need a valid card and need to meet the OHIP residency residency requirements to qualify for healthcare or else you can be asked to repay any healthcare you used.

There shouldn’t be a difference between Service Ontario locations. Documentation needed is listed online. If you have recently become a PR you will need proof of your landing documentation. You can have done a virtual landing or arrived at a border. If you didn’t apply right away you can also use your PR card. List of other documentation can be found on OHIP site.

Thank you for your response. Yes I have updated her new address in Canada. Do I have to do anything else? Does virtual landing mean we have to film or do something?

As long as you submitted picture for her PR card nothing else to do. She should apply for a SIN# too.

I'm not sure how it works. They asked me for details about my status; I am a citizen now, and my wife is a permanent resident. The letter I received confirms that my son is eligible, and only the permanent residency confirmation process is pending. They issued the health card for a year and asked me to update them once my son receives his PR card.

1. A letter from CIC stating that my son is eligible for permanent residency, and only the confirmation process is pending.
2. I provided my driver's license and Canadian passport, along with my wife's PR card and license. Please note that the process may vary from center to center, as some Service Ontario agents may be unaware of the actual procedure. In my case, they had to call another location to confirm a couple of things.

I also had my son's travel insurance document as proof of his address, although they did not ask for it.

Technically, you don't have to do anything if you have already updated your address.
In my case, he was in India when we received the passport request. I had to contact them about our travel plans, and they arranged the virtual landing.

On my son's profile, it still shows his Indian address even though I contacted them and provided his Canadian address.
I would still suggest reaching out to them and letting them know (I'm hoping this won't further delay the process).
