Hello

I would like to share my experience in getting a temporary work permit in the quebec-US border near montreal. The closest border near montreal is saint-bernard de lacolle. It is easy to go by car (approx 1 hr ). We took a greyhound bus which goes to new york which will stop in the US border for flagpoling. The border personnel are very familiar with the procedure. We got down from the bus and then told the border official in the US side that we want to go to canadian side for getting a work permit. They asked us to wait for sometime and gave a letter saying " denied entry into US" .After collectin git we walked a bit to the canadian side and gave this letter in the border inspection . They directed us to a canadian immigration and custom building where we gave our Lmo and CAQ documents . They took our old work permit and issued a new work permit. Its quite easy , not much crowded . The whole process got finished in 1 hour. But taking the public transport , would suggest everybody to check the bus timings since the bus is not frequent . But it is quite inexpensive way of going and coming back . Each ticket cost 33 dollars (aller-retour).Thanks for everyone who took the time to read it . I am not from visa-exempt country but i had a canadian Temprorary resident visa valid until april 2013.

hi read your post and it was very interesting. i have a question for that though. Did you apply online or by mail for the work permit issuance prior to your border travel? or you went straight to the border and showed your documents like LMO or old work permit?

Hi

Thanks for reading my experience. I went straight with all the required documents and did the flagpooling.
Good day!

Doesn't that mean that every future time you actually want to travel to the US you'll have to declare that you've been denied access and you have to explain why?

Isn't there a way to avoid such trouble? After all you never intended to go to the US for the work permit renewal in the first place.

Hi Mouse,
My daughter will be taking Greyhound to Saint-bernard-de-lacolle border to activate their Copr next week. Can you please share how you walk to the Canadian border ? I guess you have to cross all the booth at the US border and did you walk on the left or right side of the driveway yo the Canadian border ? Did you first notify the official at the booth when you reach the Canadian border ? Thanks for your help !

Are you sure they qualify to flagpole? How did they get their status in Canada and what status? Are they from a visa exempt country? You are replying to a post from 10 years ago. Things have changed and many borders don’t do any flagpoling so e days and do limited flagpoling other days.

Yes, I am the main applicant of QIIP and will activate my CoPR at YVR next week, my daughters has study permit. Saint-bernard-de-lacolle still activate CoPR but with limited time. how did you walk from US border to Canadian border ? Was there a pedestrian walk ? Thank you

They should receive virtual landing after you land if you have indicated that they are living in Canada. There is no need to flagpole and they may be refused flagpoling especially without proof that the primary applicant is actually settling inQuebec. Yes there is a way to walk as a pedestrian.

Thank you for your concern. I am only landing at YVR, final destination is Montreal, we have already bought a house there. Virtual landing sometime takes a long time, flagpole can activate right away. Hope everything goes well. Thank you for confirming there is a pedestrian walkway. Have a great evening !

@canuck78 My daughter has successful activated their CoPR by Flag-poling last week. There is quota for Visa/Permit application, but luckily no quota for CoPR. Thanks again for the information you provided.

Hopefully you and your daughters are enjoying living in Quebec. As you know the QIIP has a very bad reputation since many do not settle in Quebec, have not been contributing to Quebec or the primary applicant leaves right away leaving their family in Canada. Many of the primary applicants even renounce their PRs to avoid their tax liabilities. One of the many reasons that there is huge pressure to terminate the program for good.
