Wow, did anyone see this news today?

"Over 700 Indian students are deported from Canada as their Visa documents are found to be fake. Canadian Border Security Agency, CBSA has issued deportation notices to these students. Admission offer letters of these students submitted to educational institutions are found to be fake. These visa applications were filed in 2018 onwards. The fraud came to light when the students completed their 2-year diploma courses and got work permits. On becoming eligible for permanent resident status in Canada, the students submitted their representations to the immigration department. Following this, their documents were verified and students with fake visa letters were issued deportation notices."

For anyone of you on this forum:
  • If you get your letter of acceptance through an agent, MAKE SURE YOU VERIFY THAT IT IS GENUINE WITH THE DESIGNATED LEARNING INSTITUTION!!
  • If you willingly came here knowing your letter was fake, may God unleash his wrath upon you.

Yes not seen in any Canadian news as far but Indian newspaper have been publishing this news continuously. One of the newspaper has also published a pic of lots of students sitting at an airport (don't know if a true copy or not).
So sad to read that especially for a person who got to know reality when applying for PR. Imagine putting your whole life on line and getting the reality check that oh that was a dream wake up!!!

Actually that's a really fair point, how come no Canadian publication picked up on this? Notice how each of them says "Canada Border Security Agency" instead of "Canada Border Services Agency"?

As a former news reporter, you can't get stuff like this wrong, so the fact checking of basic things is in question. That being said it's probably true -it does not surprise me massive scams like these run.

I don't understand , how could the students have completed their diploma courses at these institutions if their admission offer letters were fake? How were they able to enroll in courses if they were not admitted to the college?

True, that is why I am still wondering if it is true or not. You can't believe what type of articles these types of newspapers write from- " Canada needs farm workers in millions to no IELTS required for Australia visa" and then the people in India after reading that start bothering their relatives out in these countries. Also thanks to some crap vloggers making videos saying- "oh I had just got my paycheque working 5 days job look at the amount guys..." and people are like oh these people are so wealthy, if they are so, other people would be in same financial conditions lets ask for money. Oh my gosh.....

Quite baffling, to say the least. I have had tonnes of communication with my institution, be it, for class registration or general queries or orientations or meet and greet with the designated student advisor. Besides this, I connected with my professors and coordinator on LinkedIn. All of this from my home country.

These so called colleges are equally at fault (not insinuating that students aren’t at fault) for not interacting with their future students. I am sure they must pay a hefty commission to these agents in India. It’s way too deep!

We can't blame college. See your case it was your intiative that you made an effort otherwise how would you know the help and communication was possible. The students don't take these intiatives knowing that they would be facing lots of difficulties like language barrier, adjustments and other things. They think only the visa approval is their ticket to PR and once they land at the airport Mr. Trudeau will be there to give them PR on arrival so lets party.........
The college or Uni has to take care of lots of students they can't baby sit the students. Moreover they goes with the money aspect only, they don't care if a student attend or not. You might be amazed that some supervisors are not at all aware of immigration at all. They even don't know that difference between PR and citizenship.

The story doesn't make any sense. Either the story is fake or the facts are completely wrong.

You can't attend school with a fake admissions letter. If the admissions letter was fake, how did they go to school and complete their programs? Schools know who they have admitted. A fake admissions letter doesn't allow you to attend a school and complete a program.

Story doesn't hold up. Either there's a lot more to it or it's simply false.

Yes you say that, but there is a precedent from this very credible story that fake letters, while not accepted by the colleges, do surface during PR applications and that's where those students are caught red handed: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/canada-woman-facing-removal-loses-judicial-review-final-application-stay-alberta-edmonton-1.6746585

In both stories, one consistency is that those letters came under scrutiny during the PR application process. It's hard to not believe its real given the amount of coverage and some of these publications look pretty credible for Indian news....

I'm lost.

I agree that fake admission letters are totally possible. The part of this story that is not possible is that those fake admission letter were used to attend schools and complete programs.

Just found another newspaper mentioning this article with more details. Again an Indian newspaper.
https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/punjab/canada-refuses-to-disclose-number-of-students-facing-deportation-488667
This actually seems very credible. I'm a former news reporter so I look for those little things - they asked the right questions and didn't re-report a number just because other publications did from each other. They also spelled out CBSA correctly.

So it appears something is happening, but perhaps not at 700. CBSA also never denied the reports - the number is the issue here. To @scylla's point how the heck did they finish their education with fake letters? Perhaps the college was on it??? This scam seems very deep.

Humber College wouldn't be in on something like this. If it was a private college, maybe. But not Humber. There's more to this story that the article leaves out.

Is it possible they did the same thing pointed out in the CBC article? Humber told them their letters are fake, so they just went to a different college? I'm not familiar with study permits, but is that possible? To land in Canada, find out your letter is fake (even though it gets you past CBSA), get denied by the university you thought you were admitted to and simply study elsewhere?

Even I am not much familiar with Canada student visa, but how could one enter Canada with fake letters. I had heard that other visa subcategories like study visa are often not given much checks and things are overlooked as compared to PR category. Seems like this agent took the advantage of this loop.
