Refuge applicant and extend current Visa status

I came to Canada with my wife and two children on a visitor visa, and then we applied for Refugee under protected personnel. So now we are waiting for IRCC to refer us to IRB. Please can someone advice do we need to extend our Visitor visa status while waiting for a refugee claimant?

IRCC won't extend your stay as visitors in Canada if you've submitted a refugee claim. You'll simply go out of status in Canada but will be able to remain in Canada without status due to the refugee claim.
