I realize I'm planning way in advance but is it OK to book an appointment for passport application a month and half after our oath ceremony?

Would our Citizenship Certificates arrive in that much time or is it a better idea to wait until we receive the certificates and then book an appointment for passport submission?

I notice that slots are available at all the Ottawa Service Canada/Passport Office only in late January 2023.

Our ceremony is on Dec 06.
A month and a half is plenty of time. The turnaround time for certificates is 6 weeks for the slowest offices (namely Montreal). You will find out the office doing your oath when you receive the email, but most likely it will be either Ottawa or Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls is one of the faster ones, usually 1-2.5 weeks to receive the certificate. And I've seen some reports of Ottawa residents getting in-person oath in Ottawa, so if you get lucky with that, you'll get the certificate at the oath. In any case, you can cancel your appointment at any time.

One tip: if you fill out the form
https://eservices.canada.ca/en/reservation/
and periodically refresh the appointment list for the offices in the results, earlier appointments appear randomly that you can grab if you act quickly. Every day they release large batches of appointments 45 days out, but people cancel at random times and often the night before. I'd recommend booking the January appointment now, and then after you receive your certificates and have the passport application form filled out, go back onto the site and keep refreshing every few minutes to find a sooner appointment. If you refresh often enough, you will likely find a slot opening up for the next day or in the next few days. And then you can cancel the January appointment.

These are great tips, thank you!

We received the oath invitation from Niagara Falls and the ceremony (virtual) is scheduled for December 6.

What a pleasant Black Friday morning gift...

Just checked online and my background verification status has been updated to Completed finally after good 8 months of time.

My wife's background verification is still in progress. But after seeing my status, i am hopeful now that her's will change soon too. Her application was filed almost 2 months after myself so i hope to have a change in her application status within next 2 months.

If anyone has or had the background check in progress due to delay in Criminality section and Security Passed, and no fingerprint requested, please share your experience.

Looks like your case is different than mine, although we applied roughly at the same time. I had my fingerprints requested (and received) right after the test. Also, my Criminality is passed, the security is pending. I sent a letter to IRCC and called them, was told there was some activity in my case lately, but still no sign of any update in my tracker... Did you take any steps to push your case forth?

I asked MP this week to check with IRCC but they told me already that day that they have meeting with IRCC on Tuesday, Nov 29, so it's done just on its own then, if i didn't know that they have meeting next week then i would have thought that wow, MP office did the job...

But anyways, there is hope for all of us who were stuck at BGC stage.

All the best for you too.

I hope the upcoming weekend will help push the cases that did not work on their own. Thanks again and once more all the best!

Our online tracker is still showing oath ceremony not started even though we have received the oath invite.

Hopefully, your wife will receive an update/invite soon! All the best!

Congrats! Really happy for you that your background check finally completed. It's great that your MP was able to schedule a meeting with IRCC, because some other people have reported being told by their MPs that IRCC will no longer communicate with them regarding individual files. Maybe your MP is more influential with IRCC and IRCC finally acted on your file because of the upcoming meeting.

We've moved recently and I have already sent a webform requesting for our new address to be updated.

If I remember correctly, someone on the forum had said that the official at the oath ceremony asks us to confirm our mailing address - is that right? Because I'm paranoid about the citizenship certificate being mailed to our previous address.
