Work permit expiry date

Hi, I'm a dependent child of someone that is an international student, I currently have a valid study permit, but I'm about to apply for a work permit, my parent already got his permit extension, but I haven't applied for an extension yet

My question is, is the expiry date of my work permit going to be the same as my current study permit or is it going to have the same expiry date of my parent's new permit?

Thank you!

As a dependent child, you are not eligible to apply for a work permit.

Please refer to information provided below(from IRCC).

You may be eligible for an open work permit if you

I am, I was confused as well because on the website some parts didn't mentioned dependent child's, so I called IRCC and they told me that I'm eligible, they even sent me this through email:
Can I apply for a WP from inside Canada?

"You may apply from inside Canada if you:

Hold one of these valid documents:
a work permit (or you are allowed to work without a work permit),
a study permit,
a valid temporary resident permit for a minimum of six months, or
Have applied for permanent residence in Canada under one of the following categories and your application has been *approved in principle:
Spouse or common-law partner in Canada,
Live-in caregiver,
Humanitarian and compassionate grounds, or
Have asked for refugee status in Canada and:
you are waiting for the decision from the Refugee Protection Division (RPD). In addition, you are unable to pay for your basic needs without working, or
you have been recognized as a Convention Refugee or Protected Person by the RPD, or
you have received a negative decision on your refugee claim but the Government of Canada is not yet ready to remove you from the country, or
Are a family member** of a person listed above"

I'm a family member, so I am elegible

So what I'm asking is if the work permit will come with the new expiry date or with the old one?

How old are you? If a minor on a study permit, you can't work. As a child of a parent on a study permit, you are not eligible for a work permit. You would need a LMIA to be eligible for a closed work permit.

I told you I already talked to an IRCC officer and he told me that I can apply for a work permit, that's also information you can find in the IRCC website

The website says this:

"You can apply from inside Canada if one of these applies:

you’re a Ukrainian national or an accompanying family member of a Ukrainian national
you have a valid study or work permit
your spouse, common-law partner or parent has a valid study or work permit
you’re eligible for a post-graduation work permit and your study permit is still valid
you or your spouse, common-law partner or parent has a temporary resident permit that is valid for 6 months or more
you’re waiting on a decision on an application for permanent residence for the
in-Canada spousal class
temporary resident permit holder class
you made or will make a claim for refugee protection
you’ve been recognized as a Convention refugee or protected person by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada
you’re allowed to work in Canada without a work permit, but you need a work permit to work in a different job (this does not apply to business visitors)
you’re a trader, investor, intra-company transferee or professional under the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA)"

What permit are you on then if a dependant on your parent. And how can you talk to an IRCC officer? When you call the call centre those are telephone agents who frequently give bad information. How old are you? And what permit are you on?

And you are not eligible for an open work permit. You need a LMIA from an employer for a closed work permit.

So the information the agent gave me is incorrect? What about the website? It says I may be eligible

But thank you for letting me know! I thought I was eligible because of the information on the website and the information the agent gave to me

Do you know where can I find information? Because the agents and IRCC website say I may be eligible to apply, but people here say I don't, which confuses me

The agent also said that you are eligible as a minor as long as you are old enough to work in the province you live

If you’re the spouse, common-law partner or a family member of someone working temporarily in Canada, you need a work permit to work in Canada.

You may be eligible for an open work permit if you’re

the spouse or common-law partner of a skilled worker in an occupation under the National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill type 0 or skill levels A or B
The skilled worker must be authorized to work for at least 6 months after you apply for your work permit.
the spouse or common-law partner of someone accepted for the Atlantic Immigration Program in a job under NOC skill type 0 or skill levels A, B or C
the spouse or common-law partner of a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ) holder who is eligible for the International Mobility Program Plus
a family member of a foreign representative
a family member of a foreign military member who is working in Canada

From the list of eligible persons/conditions for open work permit, there is no where mentioned this about dependent children

Can my dependent children work in Canada?

If your dependent children want to work in Canada, they must apply for their own work permit. Normally, they must meet the same requirements that you do.
In most cases, your dependent children must apply for a work permit for a specific job. Their employer may have to get a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), a document an employer must usually get before they can hire a foreign worker) from Employment and Social Development Canada. An LMIA allows an employer to hire someone for a specific job.

Unfortunately the IRCC help desk gives out very wrong information routinely. They are only good for very basic questions. Don't rely on them for anything else. They shouldn't be this useless but they are.
