APPLYING FOR OWP WHILE ON TRV

Are you married to a PR/citizen and have a spousal sponsorship application underway? Is your spouse a student or on a work permit.
It looks like you are in a conjugal relationship with a Canadian. If that's the case, then you would qualfiy for an OWP by doing all of the following:
- Getting a TRV approved.
- Traveling to Canada.
- Getting married to your Canadian partner or living with your partner in Canada for a full year to become common law
- Having your partner submit an inland sponsorship application to sponsor you for PR (once you are either married or common law)
- Once you have received AOR for the inland application, appling for the OWP
I’m still trying to decide whether to apply for TRV first before conjugal sponsorship. Cause either way, i believe it will benefit me. If approved, we can apply for common law or divorce my ex there and get married. I refused, i have another barrier to qualify as conjugal. But I’m worried about being apprved for TRV but doing nothing for the whole year. As much as possible, I want to work while trying to extend my TRV up to one year.
Can you claim common law if you come to Canada (one year of continuous cohabitation)? If not, you need to get divorced and then marry You can’t apply for a OWP until your partner has applied for your spousal sponsorship, receive AOR and then apply for OWP. It will take many months.
Yes, that’s what I’ve been thinking. My goal with TRV if approved is to apply for common law sponsorship. But on TRV, is there any chance I can work? Rather than doing nothing?
Ok. So you are common law already (lived together for at least a year continually) and are not moving to Canada, and then need to live together for one year before spousal sponsorship. No chance that you can work on TRV. You can’t work until spousal sponsorship has been sent in and you have AOR. Then you can apply for OWP.
If you are not common law then you need to live together for a year, then apply for spousal sponsorship, wait for AOR and then apply for OWP. So that could be almost 2 years.

The OWP won't come right away and will only be available to you after your sponsorship application is submitted. So if you go the common law route and first live in Canada for a year to become common law, then you'll be waiting over a year before you can work through an OWP.
IMO it's a mistake not to apply for a TRV before applying for conjugal. But your choice of course.
Not on an OWP. You would need to secure a job offer and approved LMIA so that you can qualify for a closed work permit.
Would you rather suggest me trying TRV or conjugal sponsorship? I’m leaning towards applying for TRV. If approved we can pursue common law. If not, conjugal.
You need to apply for the TRV before you apply for conjugal. It's hard to make the argument for cojugal if you haven't even tried to apply for a TRV.
Try TRV first. You have never answered - are you common law or do you need to be in Canada to claim common law, and then start sponsorship process.
