Hi Forum members,

I sponsored my child under family sponsorship and he received his COPR (Confirmation of PR). We currently reside in Canada already and he is a US citizen so he is visa exempt.

Previously, my wife and I went to the IRCC office (in Etobicoke, Toronto) and completed the In-land landing process and applied for a PR card but now it looks like IRCC is issuing any appointments. I tried to reach customer care but no one was answering. I read even a flagpole is not possible due to Covid-19 restrictions.

What is the process for applying for a PR card and completing the landing process? Please let me know if you aware of the latest process.

Much appreciated!

Thanks!
Harish

Are you sure you received the copr and not ecopr? How did you get it?

I am guessing/assuming that if IRCC knew tht your child was in Canada, that they would have done the virtual landing. Was this done through the virtual portal or by sending passport?

Thanks for the response!

We received COPR (Paper copy) through the mail (USPS).

I sent his passport to the Canada Visa Application center in New York. They sent me COPR documents (without VISA, because he is VISA exempt - i.e. US citizen).

Were you in Canada at the time? Did the instructions say to, ahem, NOT do that? But instead to contact them or send it to Ottawa?

I'm actually surprised that the New York vac/vfs sent it to you in Canada.

At any rate, right now by far the easiest way for you to get the boy landed properly is to drive to the USA and drive back.

According to the following website, after I answered questions, it says CIC will send an email asking to confirm we are in Canada and then through portal I apply for PR card. I wanted to know whether anyone followed this process?:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/immigration-applicants.html#approved

How COVID affects your immigration application
Answer a few questions and we’ll direct you to the information you need.

Have you already applied to immigrate to Canada? (required)
>>Yes

Have we sent you a printed Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) document? (required)
>>Yes

Are you in Canada or outside Canada? (required)
>> In Canada

Confirm your PR status through the Permanent Residence Portal
You’ll get emails from a mailbox ending in cic.gc.ca

  • 1) asking you to confirm you’re physically in Canada and
  • 2) with information about the Permanent Residence Portal (and options if you can’t use it)
We may still ask to speak with you on the phone or to see you in person when offices are open, in some cases.

Find out more about the Permanent Residence Portal

You should not travel to a port of entry to confirm your PR status. This is not considered essential travel and you won’t be able to confirm your PR status this way.

You need to contact IRCC and clarify that you are currently residing in Canada.

Yes you were to do that BEFORE you got COPR. As you did the wrong thing first the forum members are suggesting you go to the US and then cross. NOT try to flagpole but to actually enter the US spend for example 2 hours and come back or you can follow canuck's advice and try to fix the mess you made with IRCC.

Probably crossing the US border and then U-turn (for landing) is easier than calling.
