Expired PR card - enter with Visa?

Hi all!

My PR card is currently expired and I'm waiting for my oath ceremony. I was thinking it would be nice to visit family in Asia (Korea and/or Vietnam) and come back for the ceremony later whenever that is. Do I have the option to reenter the country on my 10 year visitor visa instead? Just worried that I would not get the PR Travel Document in time for oath if they don't give sufficient notice.

Thanks!

You are a resident, not a visitor, you cannot apply for a visitors visa.
I advise that you apply for a PR card renewal before you travel. You could use a trusted friend's address and have that friend courier the PR card to you on Korea/Vietnam when it arrives.

I got the visitor visa before I became a resident. The visa is still not expired, so my question I guess is if I show up at the border with that, would they let me in? The PR card processing time seems to still be very long, so I just wanna know if this option gives me more flexibility

You cannot use visitor visa issued before - you need pr card or prtd. The other option is to come via US in a private vehicle - then you can show your expired pr card and the officer will check that you are meeting your residency requirement.

The TRV stopped being valid once you became a PR. Your options are to renew your PR card, apply for a PRTD from Korea or Vietnam as soon as you arrive abroad since it can take some time or else you can enter via the US land border if you have a US visa. Just want to confirm that you have been in Canada for 730 days in the past 5 years.

The visa is canceled and no longer valid.

While the visa looks valid in your passport, it was canceled in the system once you became a PR and you can no longer use it to travel. You won't be allowed to board the flight back to Canada with the expired visa. Options are to renew your PR card, get a PRTD while outside of Canada, or return by flying to the US and then re-entering Canada through a land border.

1. No. Once you received your PR, you TRV was cancelled. So it is either PRTD or enter via US/Canada land border.

You would need PRTD to return if traveled outside Canada with expired PR. Your visa is no longer valid the moment you became PR

I am not entirely sure this is accurate, because I had a student visa in my passport and I had become a PR and was traveling on my passport. I initially forgot to hand over the PR card with my passport and the immigration officer just let me go to board the flight without seeing the PR card. Only when he returned me the passport I told him that I had forgotten to give him the PR card. Then he took the PR card and re-entered something in the system and let me go for boarding.

CBSA officers might be a different matter though. They might have the information on your true status in Canada.

Time to time a student visa or TRV is still valid for a short period of time after PR. However OP is talking about renewing a PR card. So this means the OP has been a PR for over 5 years. The TRV has been long canceled.
