Canadian government extends its immigration agreement with Ontario
Last week, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) announced that the Canadian government had extended its immigration agreement with the province of Ontario for an additional year.
Each of the provinces and two of the three territories in Canada have immigration agreements with the federal government that allow the
provinces to nominate or select individuals for permanent residence in Canada. The agreements also encompass the level of settlement support and funding each province and territory will obtain from the federal government.
In this case, the agreement is being extended for one year, while the federal and provincial governments negotiate a successor agreement that will ensure that Ontario receives the settlement support and funding it needs.
"The extension of this agreement prolongs our support for immigrant settlement programs, including language training and programs for newcomer youth," said Canadian Immigration Minister Jason Kenney.
