Hi,

I will land in Canada in mid march and will be back to my home country after three weeks. My cousin who is living in Toronto will receive my PR card and will courier it to me. I want to know whether it is legal because I have heard from somebody that it is illegal to courier PR card out of Canada. Please if any body could advise.

Few of my friends got their PR card couriered to them at their international address from their friends.

You may use reputed courier such as UPS and DHL so that you can track your shipment and it doesn't get lost in transit.

Also keep two new photos as per pr card photo specs with your friend. You may be required to submit your new photo in case your initial photo is rejected by CIC.

There is no law in CA that bans mailing your personal docs via courier service.
Who makes these rumors..... :o

The only rule in CIC law is that the initial issuing of your PR card directly from CIC, must be to an address within Canada and can't be sent to any address outside Canada.

However once you have your PR card, you can do whatever you want with it. If mailing overseas then just treat it like you would any other sensitive document, and know there is a chance it could be lost or stolen along the way so use a reputable courier. This is possibly why some people recommend you don't mail PR cards, but there is certainly no law or rule that prohibits it.

Thanks david1697 and rawdah.

Hi, please let me know your thoughts on this http://www.allexperts.com/user.cgi?m=6&catID=351&expID=120082&qID=4932127

Geez, this guy must be on something.. I would not think twice and send my PR card to whomever I wish it to send to. Canada is not North Korea, do not be too gullible people.

I went through the link.

Nowhere it is mentioned in CIC website that it is illegal to courier your PR card out of Canada.

I'll repeat what I wrote in your other thread you posted this question.

That "consultant" doesn't know what he's talking about.

For anyone that tells you it's illegal, simply ask them to show you the specific law or rule from CIC that states this is illegal. They will not be able to, because such a rule does not exist.

That is the answer I got from this expert:

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Show me the paragraph in immigration law where it says I cannot send my PR card to anyone outside Canada..
Answer: Michael,

I am surprised by the tone of your question.
I informed you that it is illegal to try to mail cards outside of the country
CIC do not approve of that, nor do they do it themselves.

Here is the link: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=065&t=10

I am not here to argue; but to try and help folks, who really need it.

If you are not satisfied by my response, I thank you for your rating me # 1/10

I just hope that you will not get caught breaking the CIC regulations.

Thank you

That link says "We do not mail PR cards to addresses outside Canada" "We" being CIC. CIC does not directly mail PR cards outside Canada. Also that link is not a "law", it is simply a policy of CIC.

Once you actually get the PR card, you can then do whatever you want with it. You should ask that "consultant" for the specific rule/law that states once you receive a PR card, you can't mail it outside Canada. Or of any cases on record of people being prosecuted for mailing PR cards out of Canada, since he claims it's "illegal".

Sorry to say but that "consultant" sounds like an idiot who doesn't really know what he's talking about.

Lol @ 'the consultant'

Of course you can mail or courier the PR card(s).

A good rule of thumb is to disguise the package in such a way that the handlers don't know it is carrying an ID document. What I do in such cases is include a few light pages of printed papers, or wrap the ID document first with paper and then with carbon paper.

I by mistakenly booked a group appointment with my friend for USA visa interview, are we eligible for group interview ?

Please help me asap as I booked for December 16th ?

Thanks in advance!

Not aware of any laws prohibiting mailing or courier personal documents. As a PR however it might be a pain to replace if you loose it. Make sure you are comfortable with your choice of courier. Rather a practical than a legal issue.

Good luck.

what are you talking about and what does a US visa interview have to do with either a Canada forum or mailing a PR card ?
