Great Forum.

Does anyone know how long PCC is valid? i have PCC issued back in 2013 when i used to live in UK. However i moved immediately after i got the certificate, i can not really get a new or updated PCC from UK since i no longer live there because you have to provide proof of residence etc etc which i can not provide, I can get a current certificate of course at my current place of residence.

So if anyone could clarify this that would be great.

Thanks

Problem is if your PCC is not after the last day of your stay in UK, I am afraid you may need to get a new one that is issued post your last stay date.

I am not sure if CIC considers a few days or weeks difference between date of PCC issue and last stay date. If that isn't acceptable you may need to apply for a fresh PCC at UK embassy in your current country of stay.

But once you leave the country the PCC is valid until you return to that country again to stay.

Hi Also had a question similar to this and posted some feedback in another thread.

I called up CIC to enquire as mine were dated in 2015 both for my home country and another country i resided in for more then 6 months.

The guy advised me it is valid as long as:
1. You did not go back there and stayed more then 6 months
2. Your home country's PCC is issued after you left the country
3. There is no expiry date stated on the PCC

I asked what if I returned to my home country for holidays and he replied as long as not more than 6 months. The way they tell this when you submit your scanned passport they will be able to see the stamps in and out to determine if you have stayed more than 6 months. Now with some countries not having stamps anymore (electronic entry) I'm not sure how they can tell. But anyway he says it's fine.

The rule of thumb is stay no more than 6 months (cumulative days not just continuously) and home country issued after last stay in your home country.

Just sharing what I was advised by the CIC personnel. Tx

Who needs a police certificate?
In general, you and all the people in your family who are 18 or older need to get a police certificate.

You may need a police certificate from any country or territory that you have spent six months or more since the age of 18.

For example: if you visited, worked or lived in a country for two months, left for a few years, then returned for four months, that counts as spending six months there. In this case, you would need a certificate.

If you need a police certificate from a country or territory and:

  • are currently living there, or received the police certificate before leaving, the police certificate must be issued within six months before you apply.
  • have lived there in the past, the police certificate must be issued after you last lived in that country or territory.

Hi All,

I have visited the US in the past (2015) on two occasions; on both separate occasions I stayed for ~ 2 weeks (totaling ~4 weeks). Now, I am living in the US (on internship visa till Jan 2019). I started living on Jan 9 and will make 6 months by Jul 9.

Pls I wanted to know if I need to count those 2015 short visits, with which my visits would have made 6 months by June 9 (hence needing a police certificate).

Thanks very much

Hi, were you able to know the answer? I, too, have the same concern.
Thanks!

I ended up submitting my application around Aug 2018, so I had to request a police certificate - the online one is pretty fast.

A follow-up on the 180 days rule. I'm not sure if the CIC updated this, but here's what it says on the page today:
That seems to suggest that if you spent 5 months in a country, left, then came back for another month, it wouldn't count as 6 months, right?

I got my PCC issued 1 day before leaving my home country after visiting for 1 week. I already got AOR and stressed about it. Would really appreciate feedback from peope who went through the same thing
