Hi all, I am eligible to apply for citizenship Jan,5th, 2017.Obviously, my 2016 tax filing won't be done until I get my T4 by med of Feb. The question is, could I apply before filing my 2016 tax income or I have to wait untill filing is done.Thanks in advance.

You don't have to wait, but prepare T4 for the interview, if possible. Also there are 3 columns in the application form:Joe Joe said:

If necessary, they will contact CRA and find out if you sent it in time (usually end of April or earlier). You are not obliged to provide CRA with your tax return before the "return due date" and can technically make it in last day. CIC (Immigration and citizenship) only requires you to follow the CRA rules; they can't enforce you to send your tax return before the date you apply for the citizenship, except when the CRA wants that.
For example, if you apply in January and you check "Taxes filed" it may even look suspicious. In February or March you can check or keep it unchecked - both are OK. Unchecked in April would look strange already for my taste and starting from May be just wrong.
Don't worry. As long as you filed 2015, 2014, 2013, .. etc., you will be OK. Yet, do not forget to file 2016 as soon as you receive your T4 so in the interview you will be ready if they ask you about it.Joe Joe said:
